Pattern Notes
Join new color by working: Yo, draw through joining chain and last loop on hook.
Chain-5 at the beginning of a round counts as a double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated.
Chain-2 at the beginning of a round or row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.
Chain-1 at the beginning of a round or row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.
Special Stitch
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in same st as first ch (see illustration).
Granny Squares
Make 5 using the color sequence chart.
Begin with an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 5(see Pattern Notes), working in the adjustable ring, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] 3 times, 2 dc, sl st into 3rd ch of initial ch 5. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 5, 3 dc in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, [(dc 3, ch 2, dc 3, ch 1) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, 2 dc in same ch-2 sp as beg ch 5, sl st into 3rd ch of initial ch 5. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 5, 3 dc in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, [(dc 3, ch 1) in next ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, 3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 sp, 2 dc in same ch-2 sp as beg ch 5, sl st into 3rd ch of initial ch 5. (36 dc)

Pockets
Make 1 with red yarn and 1 with skin tone yarn.
Make an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), 12 dc in red (skin tone), join with sl st into the first dc. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st into the first dc. (24 dc)

Hat Border
With RS facing, join dark teal yarn on the side of the last sc of Row 1.
Row 1: Sc evenly in the side of each row, (sc 1, ch 1, sc 1) in row 19 of the hat.
Hair
Crochet the hair along the bottom of the elf hat.
With RS facing, hold the hat with the tip down and join your hair color yarn in the 2nd ch of the initial ch 21 of the hat.
Row 1: Sc in same ch as joining, hdc in next ch, (dc, ch 2, sl st) in next ch, sc in next 4 ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, (tr, ch 3, sl st) in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, (tr, ch 3, sl st) in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, (tr, ch 3, sl st) in next ch.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Hatband
With yellow yarn, ch 26.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, turn. (25 sc)
Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. (25 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, [sc in first sc, hdc in next sc, dc in next sc, tr in next sc, (tr, ch 3, sl st) in the next sc] 5 times.
