All dogs belong to the canine group, which also includes wolves, foxes, and jackals. Dogs are known for their instincts to herd, hunt, and guard. Short Dogs with this type of coat have sho rt hair . The se dogs are the e asiest to groom. Breeds including the Boxer , Dalmatian, Greyhound, and Labrador Re triever have short coats. Double Many breeds have a double coat. The topcoat is waterproof , while the undercoat is soft and short. Breeds including the Chow Chow have a very thick double coat to help protect them in cold weather . Wire-hair ed Wire coats, also called broken coats, fe el rough when touched. Most terriers including the Giant Schnauzer are wire-haired. This coat is perfect for act ivities such as digging, or racing through bushes. Dog hair can be short, long, silky , or rough. Some dogs have two types o f hair . T opcoat hairs are longer . They grow past shorter , undercoat hairs, which sit close to the skin. Color var ie ties Dog coats can be various colors.
