Without Sadie and the thousands of people who have shared their life stories with me, and allowed me to speak with their deceased loved ones, there would be nothing to tell.

Foreword
I met Carolyn Molnar at a Spiritualist seminar held at a retreat in the North of England. As a physical medium, I had, by invitation of the organizer, held a sance to enable the delegates of whom Carolyn was one to witness communication with the spirit world on a physical level.
Afterwards, I was enjoying a cup of tea in the establishments tea room when I was approached by a soft-spoken young lady who introduced herself as Carolyn Molnar from Canada. The retreat was her first experience of physical mediumship, and we chatted together in a manner that was both relaxed and genial.
At that time, my impression of her was in regards to her beautiful accent and of the warm gentleness of spirit that was very evident throughout our conversation. We exchanged email addresses with the promise that we would keep in touch. However, at that time, neither of us could possibly have suspected that out of that meeting would be borne a wonderful camaraderie that would eventually lead to this small contribution to her excellent book.
At this point readers may, understandably, wonder why such a chance meeting should have developed into the warm, respectful, and meaningful relationship that it did. To answer that, I shall make a statement that I know many who possess knowledge of contemporary mediumship will agree with. Conversely, I have no doubt that there will also be many who disagree, because they refuse to face reality and some uncomfortable facts.
However, rightly or wrongly, after forty years of deep involvement in the movement of Spiritualism, I unequivocally believe that Spiritualism today is literally awash with mediumistic mediocrity. It is everywhere, and, as a direct consequence, the movement is the poorer. The reason why standards have so badly deteriorated over the past fifty years can be traced directly to a basic lack of understanding as it relates to the development of mediumship. Sadly, there are many who prefer to bury their heads in the sand. They fail to face reality, and, in spite of their knowledge of the true plight of mediumship and Spiritualism, have convinced themselves that things are not so bad and, that generally, everything in the garden is rosy. My statement, therefore, will find favour with some and not so with others.
It brings me no pleasure to record that throughout my own journey, I have repeatedly met with people who simply wished to be mediums and most of those, although no doubt well intentioned, sadly failed to understand exactly what the process of development involves. Few ever appreciated that, foremost, mediumship is always a matter of sincerity of purpose. Unfortunately, many whom I have encountered merely wished to enhance and elevate their own standing amongst their peers. They suffered from egotism or envied those who had successfully developed their gifts. Indeed, there were a whole raft of reasons for wishing to develop, although seldom were they motivated by the singular wish to be of service to mankind on both sides of the great divide. Those who did so for truly altruistic reasons were, in my experience, few and far between.
When I first met Carolyn, I was immediately impressed by her demeanour and by what she had to say. Indeed, within minutes, it became clear that before me was a woman possessing genuine sincerity someone whom I instinctively knew was a true servant of the spirit. Troughout that first meeting and later as we exchanged emails, it was always evident that she exemplified what a true channel of two-world communication truly is or should be. She wanted only to be of service. That impression struck me forcefully and has continued to do so ever since.
