Foreword
The women's concerns Committees (Canada and U.S.) of Mennonite Central Committee have had a long-standing commitment to work on issues of abuse in the church and in Christian families.
We have produced packets of helpful material: "Broken Boundaries," on child sexual abuse; "Crossing the Boundaries," on pastoral and professional sexual abuse; and a "Purple Packet," on spouse abuse.
More recently, we've published a booklet that addresses the needs of family members of both the survivors and the perpetrators of sexual abuse: Expanding the Circle of Caring. Another booklet of worship resources assists congregations in breaking the silence surrounding abuse: Lord, Hear Our Prayers.*
All these resources briefly deal with abuse prevention. But their primary focus is on what to do after abuse has occurred. Recently we at MCC Women's Concerns evaluated our work on issues of abuse.
