Introduction
As promised, lets start by sharing with you our very own sriracha sauce recipe. The red color is provided by red serrano and jalapeno peppers, so its safe to say that they will be essential ingredients.
For about one pound of jalapeno peppers, you should plan to use pound red serrano peppers. Also, plan to use the following ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon. sea salt
- 2 Tablespoons minced garlic,
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar,
- 1 Tablespoon, agave syrup,
- 1/3 cup water,
- cup white balsamic vinegar.
You should plan about 30 minutes total to prepare this sauce. First, I will not say it enough, be carefully when handling the peppers. Using plastic gloves when cutting them is a great idea. So, chop all the peppers, removing all the seeds carefully. Place the peppers and all the remaining ingredients listed above in your high-speed blender or food processor. Activate the device chosen, blend until the mixture becomes very smooth, like a sauce. To be successful, you should not leave any lumps in the sauce, so keep blending until that is accomplished.
When it is not thick enough, here is what I will do: add about 1 teaspoon in the sauce and bring to boil in a saucepan. Then, I will let it simmer for about 20 minutes. That usually does the trick and brings the sauce to the right thickness.
Keep this sauce refrigerated until ready to use in a jar or a bottle. I like to offer my sauce (when I am sure its very good), to friends and family. So, I will purchase some cute bottles or maybe ribbons and special spoons to attached to the bottles.
Now you might wonder if making the sauce at home is truly worth it? Well, this is a very relative question since it is a very personal taste. You can always compare!
Lets get started now with some mouthwatering recipes and lets have some fun with it!
Garlic and Sriracha Chicken Wings
I dont know if you are like me, but I sometimes run out of ideas when it comes to seasoning our chicken wings. Sure, the buffalo sauce or teriyaki sauce works, but when I tried the sriracha sauce below, my family was sold.
Servings: 4-6
Preparation time: 2 hours
Ingredients:
1.5-pound chicken wings;
cup sriracha sauce;
2 Tbsp. minced garlic
2 Tbsp. corn oil
tsp. onion powder
2 Tbsp. fresh minced parsley
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 Tbsp. orange juice
1 Tbsp. lemon zest
1 Tbsp. orange zest
Salt, pepper
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Grease a baking sheet and set aside.
- Clean the chicken wings and set them aside.
- In a small pan, heat the oil and cook the garlic for 5 minutes.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the rest of the oil, sriracha sauce lemon juice, orange juice, cooked garlic and seasonings and herbs.
- This will serve as you marinade for your chicken.
- So, use a large Ziploc bag or plastic container and place all chicken wings in it.
- Marinade for at least 1 hour.
- Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes.
- Serve with some wet napkins to wipe your hands.
