Selection criteria -Which device is right for me?
There are many different brands and models in a price range between 20 and 300 euros. I recommend you choose a more well-known brand.
You have better warranty conditions, a better user manual, more extensive setting options, higher quality workmanship and better energy yield than is the case with cheaper and lesser-known brands. Do a little research before going to a store for advice. If you search for mini- oven or toast oven on the Internet (e.g. www.expertentesten.de, www.backbibel.de, www.der-minibackofen-test.de) , you will be amazed at how much information is made available to you. The consumer websites mentioned test various brands and models of mini-ovens and provide them with an evaluation free of charge. When narrowing down your choices, please do not only pay attention to the prices, but also include criteria for your individual needs, such as: Capacity: This size relates to the baking chamber (inside size) and is specified in liters or cubic centimeters (length times width times height in centimeters).
Non-heating housing: The housing is made of heat-resistant material, which prevents heat from escaping and ensures energy-efficient use. Extending oven rack: The oven rack extends automatically when you open the door of your mini oven. Removable crumb tray: It should be non-stick coated, easily accessible and removable without resistance to make cleaning easier. Keep warm function: This function ensures that the food is kept warm for a certain time after baking. Grill function: Most medium to large mini ovens have this function. When researching mini ovens, compare grill temperatures to best meet your needs.
Temperature thermostat: Some models reach their limit at 230 degrees Celsius, while other models are designed for temperatures up to 260 degrees Celsius. Easy to clean interior: The interior is lined with non-stick material, which makes cleaning easier. Air circulation function: A fan circulates the air during baking or grilling, which reduces the cooking time. Accessories: Most mini ovens are usually equipped with at least one grill rack or grill tray that fits into the oven. Timer: This indicates the end of the toasting, baking or grilling time with a ringing or ringing. Size: Choose a model that fits where you want it to be.
The sizes and capacity of mini ovens vary depending on the brand, design and model. As a basis for this recipe book, I used a medium-sized and medium-priced mini oven, designed for 4-6 bread slices with a capacity of 45 liters. It has a time-controlled toast, grill and baking function and reaches a maximum temperature of 230 degrees Celsius. If you have a smaller mini oven, you will need to reduce the amount of each ingredient accordingly. In addition, the cooking times may change depending on whether your mini oven is larger or smaller. Roughly, you can say that if your mini oven is half the size, you only need three quarters of the specified cooking time (and vice versa).
If you use your mini oven more often, you will develop a good feeling for the capacity and the cooking times.
Helpful accessories and valuable utensils
Most baking pans will fit in a medium-sized mini oven, but their domed lids are usually too tall. Instead, use aluminum foil to cover the shapes. Remember that mini ovens need the same ovenproof baking and casserole dishes as a normal oven. You can also try the aluminum baking and casserole dishes that are available in most supermarkets. Most of these light and inexpensive containers are made of sturdy aluminum foil and are suitable for the mini oven.
They come in all kinds of shapes: muffin, box, cake and baking tins. Be aware that plastic containers, waxed paper, plastic wrap, paper plates, or paper towels that can be used in the microwave could catch fire or melt in the mini oven. If you pre-cook dishes in the microwave and then put them in the mini oven to finish cooking, it is best to use baking and grill tins that are suitable for both appliances. Below is a list of utensils and shapes that will be very useful when cooking with the mini oven:
- Loaf pan (preferably non-stick coated)
- Baking sheet (preferably non-stick coated)
- Square cake pan (preferably non-stick coated)
- Square all-purpose shape (preferably non-stick coated)
- Muffin pan for six muffins (preferably non-stick coated)
- Round cake shape (preferably non-stick coated)
- Round cake pan (preferably non-stick coated)
- Square, ovenproof baking pan
- 1 or 2 pairs of baking gloves (cotton or polyester)
- Coaster (heat-resistant)
- Whisk
- Big spoon
- Grill tongs
- measuring cup
The best place for my mini oven
It is best to place your mini oven in a place in the kitchen where it is easily accessible (parents with young children should be careful to keep the mini oven out of the reach of prying little fingers). The heat-resistant models also give off heat. Make sure there is about four to six inches of space to the back and sides of the oven and about six to eight inches to the top.
There should be enough space in front of the device so that the door can be opened and closed easily. Curtains, shutter belts and any other inflammable material should not be near the mini oven. Mini ovens require a normal Schuko plug. Check that the socket you want to use is working properly. It is best to keep the baking gloves, coasters and tongs within easy reach.
