INTRODUCTION
What would you say if we told you that you could cook a whole chicken while you take a shower? What about sauting your favorite vegetables as you catch up on some reading or reply to your boss' annoying post-work hour emails? Trust us; it is entirely possible thanks to a group of humans who were so busy at one point that they decided to improve humanity by shortening cooking times for things they did not have to cook anyway. Thus, the Instant Pot! While our story sounds a little sarcastic, it's true.
Instant Pots have always been the pinnacle of kitchen appliances and multi-cookers. However, they can be a little intimidating. What did you expect from an appliance that solves life for you? Yes. When you think about it that way, it kind of makes sense for an Instant Pot to have so many buttons and settings. It is like the NASA headquarters of a busy person's kitchen in many ways. It has got all the responsibility of cooking a decent meal for you. Nonetheless, you need to program it right and make sure you have thought everything through so well that nothing can go wrong. Otherwise, make sure to expect some trouble.
However, before we get into all the not-so-positives, let's make the Instant Pot shine a little more. After all, that's what we're here for, isn't it? If entire kitchens and personal chefs had a baby, the Instant Pot would be it. It's an all-in-one appliance. It is a pressure cooker, slow cooker, oven, stove, steamer, rice cooker, sterilizer, and more. Not only does it save up a ton of cabinet space because you only need one appliance versus many separate ones that carry out single functions, but it is also a completely hands-off appliance. Oh, and the cooking time of anything is automatically put on steroids when you use an Instant Pot! That means you can practically cook a full-course dinner in about an hour without actually having to do anything yourself. How amazing is that?! Having said this, why would you not want one? Maybe you are not as busy as the president, but if you can save yourself the trouble of spending hours in the kitchen, why wouldn't you?
Instant Pot Functions
As we mentioned, Instant Pots are entire kitchens mushed into a single appliance. In our opinion, they are so great that we can think of a few things that one can't do. For example, blend and bake. That means there are many things it can do, and that's why it has so many settings and functions. While we tend to love simple kitchen appliances that don't require us to go back to college Calculus in order for us to get them working, we are willing to let the many buttons on Instant Pots slide simply because of the amount of culinary tasks it can perform. After all, slow cooking and steaming, for example, require completely different temperatures and times. The same goes for pressure cooking and just warming up food. Thus, it is impossible to simplify things even more without messing up your dinner unless you want to scorch your chicken and steam your pasta. Now that we think about it, maybe something can be even easier, but we haven't gotten to that point yet. Humanity's next greatest step is improving and simplifying the Instant Pot, and we are so ready for it!
Until then, here are some of its most common functions and subsequent buttons:
Pressure cooking
Slow cooking
Steaming
Rice Cooker
Saut
Warm
Yogurt
Cakes
Regardless of which function(s) you will use, we do not recommend figuring out the Instant Pot on your own. It isn't like most other appliances like toasters and blenders where there isn't that much science. In fact, we highly recommend reading the instruction manual from start to finish because you must know how to properly secure the lid before you decide to walk away as well as how long you must wait before opening the lid unless you want your kitchen and guests to witness a terrible accident. Like everyone always says, with great power comes great responsibility. Instant Pots are no different. While they solve your entire life, they are a terrible force to reckon if you do not use them properly. So please don't take this with a grain of salt. Although they are the best kitchen appliance you could have, they are also potentially the most dangerous ones.
Instant Pot Benefits
If having your entire life sorted out for you isn't enough already, we would be more than happy to break down the many benefits of owning an Instant Pot:
Space-saver
Unless you have a huge kitchen with tons of counter space and cabinets, you will know how annoying it is to have to cram all of your appliances into remote crevices or even have to keep them in the storage closet where you will eventually neglect them. You might not think this is a problem, but if you make a list of all the appliances you have, they start to pile up. Let's see: toaster, blender, food processor, waffle-maker, slow cooker, rice cooker, panini press? Unfortunately, we haven't invented a machine that includes all those in one. However, the Instant Pot does several functions, which means you can save space and money because you will no longer have to buy separate appliances.
