Introduction
Halloween treats can be much more than store bought candy; you can wow everyone with homemade rice cereal treats or some sweet and salty caramel crunch popcorn. These Halloween recipes are made right in your kitchen with ingredients you may already have - and are well worth the effort. You can indulge in a chocolate candy cake and wash it down with a sweet yet tangy poison apple drink.
This book is perfect when you want to make unique treats to serve to your family (you can get them involved too!) or bring to a Halloween get together. Theyre delicious and pretty easy to make.
Skull Pizza Pockets
These pizza pockets can be filled with your favourite toppings and are a great snack during Halloween. Frankly, pizza pockets are always a pleaser... but picture them skull shaped! Perfect for Halloween. Imagine biting into a crisp skull shaped outer layer and out spills some red pasta sauce with chunks. Not only delicious but a pretty cool eating experience.
Serving Size: 6
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 rolls of pizza dough enough to make two pizzas
- 6 tablespoons of pizza sauce
- 24 slices of pepperoni, finely chopped
- cup of Italian sausage, cooked and cut into small pieces
- 1 cups of mozzarella, shredded
- 1 tablespoon of butter / cooking spray
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degree F and grease your skull pan with butter or cooking spray.
2. Unroll pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 strips large enough to cover moulds. Place each strip into moulds and slightly press down so that the dough will have a defined skull shape.
3. Add pepperoni, sausage and cheese inside the dough. Fold it over, cut off excess dough and press the seams together to seal.
4. Bake for 15 20 minutes or until golden brown.
** You will need a skill shaped mould / baking pan to make this dish.
Octopus Hotdogs
These Octopus hotdogs look great and are very easy to make. Theyre a great addition to kids lunch box or for a quick snack on Halloween. Serve with ketchup, mustard or mayo and bread or crackers.
Serving Size: 2
Preparation Time: 8 minutes
Ingredients:
- 3 hotdog sausages
- 1 cups of water
- 3 4 tablespoons of cooking oil
- Condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayo and hot sauce. (optional)
Instructions:
1. Cut each hot dog in half. (horizontally)
2. Turn the hot dog on its flat side and cut a vertical line in the middle about 1 inch from the top. This will make 2 legs. Turn the hotdog to the other side and cut these vertically as well. You can stop here, or you can cut each of the 4 legs again to make 8.
3. Pour water in a large sauce pan and bring to a boil.
4. Add sausages and boil for 3 5 minutes. This is where the legs of the octopus will begin to curl.
5. Remove from pan and blot with a paper towel. They can be served at this point.
6. This step is optional. To add a bit of a crispy outside to the sausages, you can heat the cooking oil in a medium sauce pan and fry on each side totalling 2 minutes. Be careful not to tear any legs.
Jack-O-Lantern Peppers
These peppers are a great party dish. They are fun, cute, mini versions to the traditional Halloween jack-o-lantern and can be stuffed with virtually anything rice and beans, meat, veggies or everything! These bell peppers are stuffed with sausages, rice and veggies but you can customize your peppers to your liking and the different tastes of your guests and enjoy!
Serving Size: 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 large orange bell peppers
- 1 cup of rice, cooked
- 1 pound of Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons of chili powder
- 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons of ketchup
- 2 - 5 tablespoons of cooking oil
- 1 2 tablespoons of water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350-degree F.
2. Cut the tops off the peppers and carefully remove the seeds and membrane. Use a small knife to cut holes into the peppers to make jack-o-lantern faces. If the peppers do not stand on their own, slice a small amount off the bottom to make it even. Drizzle some oil inside each pepper and sprinkle salt and pepper on the insides and the tops as well.
3. Arrange on a parchment lined / greased baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
4. Heat cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sautee sausages and onions for 1 2 minutes. Until onions are translucent.
5. Add chilli powder, Italian seasoning, ketchup and water to pan. Allow to cook for 3 minutes.
6. Add rice to the skillet and stir until everything is well combined. Cook for 1- 2 minutes, until the mixture is heated through.
7. Fill each pepper with the sausage and rice filling, overfilling them slightly and place the tops on each pepper.
Jalapeno Mummies
Not only are these jalapeno mummies cute and fun to eat but they are delicious! The crust reveals some jalapenos are that are mildly spicy and stuffed with delicious mozzarella cheese. These jalapeno mummies are a terrific addition to your family Halloween dinner or your neighbours Halloween party.
Serving Size: 20
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 10 Jalapeno peppers, cut in half and seeds and membrane removed
- 8 ounces of cream cheese, room temperature
- 8 ounces of mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 stalks of scallion, chopped finely
- teaspoon of salt
- 1 package of crescent rolls
- Egg wash 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of milk or water
- Candy eyes
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375-degree F.
2. Mix cream cheese mozzarella cheese, scallion and salt together in a small bowl. Set aside.
3. Roll out the crescent rolls into rectangles about 1/8 of an inch thick. Cut these rectangles into long inch wide strips.
