A KILL-OR-BE-KILLED APPROACH TO FORTNITE: BATTLE ROYALE

F irst- and third-person shooters are nothing new to the gaming industry. However, Fortnite: Battle Royale from Epic Games is so much more than just another generic shooter that simply requires you to shoot and kill aliens, zombies, soldiers, computer-controlled characters, or anything that moves.

Since its release in July 2017, Fortnite: Battle Royale has captured and kept the attention of gamers around the world. It has truly become a global phenomenon. The focus of this unofficial guide is on Fortnite: Battle Royale , the wildly popular 100 Player versus Player (PvP) version of the game. Its also a guide geared more for adults, and puts extra emphasis on the PC version (although much of the information herein applies to all versions of the game).

What Sets Fortnite: Battle Royale Apart

No matter how many games youve mastered in the past, little has prepared you for the challenges that lie ahead. There are five key elements that differentiate Fortnite: Battle Royale, and that have allowed it to achieve its unprecedented levels of success.

Fortnite: Battle Royale can be experienced on a PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or on many Android-based mobile devices. Fortnite: Battle Royale is an online-based, real-time, massively multiplayer game. Each time you experience a match, youll be competing against up to ninety-nine other gamers. Individual players bring their own gaming skills and strategies to the battle. When combined with a few random elements in the game, such as the expansion and movement of the deadly storm, this ensures that no two matches are ever the same.

Anyone can download and play Fortnite: Battle Royale on their gaming system, on an unlimited basis, for free. While there are opportunities to make in-game purchases, these are all optional. Yet, as youll soon discover, Epic Games offers compelling reasons for gamers to potentially spend hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on in-game purchases over time.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is highly customizable. There are many ways to tweak the game. In minutes, its possible to adjust in-game settings to better adhere to your personal gaming skills and play style.

Its also possible to personalize the appearance of the soldier youll be controlling throughout each match. This is done from the Locker by acquiring, purchasing, or unlocking outfits, as well as accessory itemsincluding a pickaxe design, back bling design, glider design, and contrail designall of which will be explained in the next section.

Every day new outfits and accessory items are made available from the Item Shop. Mix and match these items to give your soldier a truly unique look.

In order to build a base of more than 125 million active players, Epic Games has created a challenging, fast-paced, and often intense game play experience that appeals to a broad audience of gamers. When playing Fortnite: Battle Royale a continuous Internet connection is required. Its to your advantage to establish the fastest and most reliable Internet connection possible using your gaming system.

Always Focus on Your Core Objectives

When experiencing most of the game play modes offered within Fortnite: Battle Royale , the ultimate goal is to become the last person alive on the island at the end of each matchand to achieve #1 Victory Royale. This means that all of your enemiesup to ninety-nine of themmust be killed and eliminated. Theres no room for compassion or mercy. However, if youre playing a Duos, Squads, or 50 v 50 match, for example, one additional goal is to help keep your partner, squad mates, or fellow team members alive.

Fortnite: Battle Royale has three permanent game play modesSolo, Duos, and Squads. Each week, however, Epic Games introduces up to three temporary game play modes that offer an entirely different gaming experience. Upon choosing the Solo game play mode, your soldier will find themselves on the island along with up to ninety-nine enemy soldierseach being controlled in real-time by another gamer. During a Solo match, youre on your own when it comes to survival and exterminating your competition.
