About the Author
Sylvia was born in London in 1939, just before World War II started. She was told her life had been mapped out for the work she had to do by a higher power that changes her life forever. Throughout her life, she has always felt that angels guided her and that she had a connection with this higher power. After being reduced to living in a homeless shelter with two children at the age of twenty-three, Sylvia had the most extraordinary experience. She began feeling the presence of a wonderful divine being in her life as a permanent guide that has stood by her to this day. Her journey included meeting up with spirit on the other side and having an encounter with a UFO.
The Other Side of Me has her full life story, which is one of disability, losing her speech at an early age during an air raid, and having to attend a special needs school. When she did regain her speech, she still found it difficult to pronounce certain words. This affected her education on all levels. But Sylvia refused to let anything hold her back in life and stayed positive. And that's what she wants her readers to know. She wants the world to know not only how she survived and made it, but also how the world can do it, too, if only they could open up to the reality beyond this reality.
Although there was minimal contact with her father and a lack of opportunity to get to know him, the author still feels a closeness with his spirit. It was through a message from spirit through a medium that Sylvia was told to write her book. Later in a dream, she was told to keep the title as: The Other Side of Me. This inspired her, and she began writing this book with the hope that it will guide and inspire others to believe in themselves.
Preface
We never know what direction our life takes. This uncertainty often ends up taking its toll and we often choose to stay in situations and relationships that dont offer love or support. We either do that out of fear or a sense of commitment that suits other people's needs. Unfortunately, this can affect us emotionally, drain our energy or vital force and inhibit spiritual growth.
I have been in many such situations in my lifetime.
I was born in 1939 when World War II was declared with Germany. I had a very difficult childhood. I was about three years old when during an air raid attack, I lost my voice and had to attend a special needs school.
When I was able to communicate, I stuttered. This not only affected my education but also my self-worth.
My disability made me an open target of mockery and ridicule. Considering my sensitive nature, all of this deeply affected me emotionally. However, the whole experience made me empathetic and compassionate towards others.
Eventually, I became brave enough to laugh with them and at myself, which is just as well, because even to this day, at my age of eighty-one, I still have difficulties with certain words.
Growing up after the war years, as a teenager, I became more independent, and I enjoyed life. When I left school, I worked in an office as a switchboard operator. With the help of my job supervisor, I managed to overcome some of my difficulties, not only in pronouncing certain words but also in spelling them. We became lifelong friends, and she became a second mum to me.
At different times in our lives, caught up in emotional dilemmas, we look elsewhere for answers. It was in the summer of 1972 when I found myself in this situation. I was in an unhappy marriage, and I had fallen in love with a man in a similar situation. My life was at a crossroads, so I decided to visit a friend for a weekend who lived by the sea in Sussex. I thought this would give me a chance to clear my head.
Walking along the promenade with its few shops and enjoying the sea view, I noticed a sign advertising psychic readings. It had been a few years since Id had a psychic reading, and I now felt the need for some guidance.
The psychic held my hand and, looking at my palm, she told me, My dear, you are going to be a clairvoyant and healer, and youll go all over the world and people will come to you from all over the world, but the man you are now married to, is not the man who will help you. All you have
been to this man is a housekeeper. The latter part of what she had said, I understood, but the first part of the reading was a lot for me to digest.
At the time of that reading, I was becoming increasingly interested in the psychic and the paranormal world and would often give friends the odd palm or Tarot card reading that I had acquired from a magazine and stuck on cardboard.
So, I was excited when my friend Eileen had bought me a proper pack of Tarot cards consisting of seven-eight cards for my birthday.
I found it interesting what the palmist had told me, considering I only had the reading for some guidance on what was happening in my emotional life. However, surprisingly, there had been no mention of it.
Later that year, in November, a friend invited me to go with her to a Spiritualist Church in Aylesbury. Part of the message that I received from the medium there was for me not to have a grudge on my past as my life was mapped out for the work I had to do, for the rich dont understand the poor unless they have been poor themselves. These messages led me to the path I was meant to follow. I found this all to be very inspiring, and little did I know that this gift would become such an important part of my life.
All through my life, I have gone through many changes, some good and some disappointing. However, even when I went through my darkest moments, I never felt alone. I felt a strong connection with God and the universe with all its wonders, which helped me to do the work I have come to do.
The hardships I have experienced helped me in understanding other humans without judging them, with love and encouragement to help them through their darkest hour.
To be able to feel another persons pain is a gift, and I truly believe we all have the gift of healing. Just a kind thought, or even a smile can do wonders.
I wanted to write this book to share my knowledge and encourage others to believe in themselves and to find their path.
We are all part of the oneness we share and often overlook in our own individuality, and it can help us develop our own special gifts.
Chapter One: World War II
I was born in London in England in 1934. I went through,as a child, the horrors of World War II, through a timewhen food was rationed and we learned to be very careful, and we never had more to eat than what we needed to eat.
There was no waste. Everything was used.
- Jane Goodall
I couldnt agree more with Jane because I have literally lived, through this time, myself. In September 1939, World War II was declared with Germany. The world saw ferocious destruction, and I, well, I was too young to remember how it all started. However, I did live in the war-wrecked world and suffered its after-effects like many others. I was about six months old at the time.
