Easy and Delicious Empanada Recipes

1) Empanada Dough
An empanada is only as good as the dough and the filling that is in it; the delicious texture of the flaky dough that is baked to perfection. You can put practically anything inside this dough to create your own empanada.
Cooking Time: 1 Hours
Makes: 12 Pastries
List of Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, unbleached
- 1 large egg
- 1 stick ( cup) butter, unsalted, cut into inch cubes
- 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
- 1/3 cup ice water

Procedure:
Mix flour and salt together and sift into a large bowl. Blend butter in with the flour mixture until mixture is course and has pea size butter lumps.
Beat eggs, water and vinegar into small bowl using a fork. Mix this into the flour mixture until just fully mixed.
Place the mixture onto a surface that is lightly floured pulling the mixture into one spot. Using the heel of your hand knead the mixture together once or twice, bringing together the dough. Place in the fridge after forming the dough into a flat rectangle and wrapping, for 1 hour.
2) Basic Empanadas
This basic empanada is simple but delicious. It uses any flavored jam you want, making it great for a breakfast grab and go. Usually kids are not big fans of breakfast but you can make your kids smile with an awesome breakfast treat.
Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Makes: 2 dozen
List of Ingredients:
- 1 (3 oz.) pack cream cheese
- cup butter, softened
- 1 cup fruit preserves
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg

Procedure:
Mix cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Mix in flour until the dough mixture has come together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and remove the empanada dough from the fridge to sit for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured counter until you reach the thickness of of an inch. Use a large round cookie cutter to make round dough discs. Place a teaspoons of jam at the center of every empanada disc. Whisk egg in a bowl and use your fingers to coat the edges of the dough with the egg. This will help to hold the edges together when baking.
Fold the circles in half, resembling a half moon. Crimp the edges of the dough using a fork. Bake on a cookie sheet that is ungreased for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and powder with cinnamon sugar mixture. Let the empanadas stand for 10 minutes to cool.
3) Spicy Empanada
This empanada can be made with either beef or pork. There are some amazing ingredients making this dish not only spicy but mouthwatering. It will sure enough leave a nice warm impression on anyone who tastes this.

Dough
- 2 teaspoons Baking powder
- 4 cups flour, plus some for dusting
- cup cold butter
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 large egg, beaten
Filling
- 2 onions, finely diced
- 2 lbs. ground pork or beef
- teaspoons chili powder
- 2 jalapeno chilies, seeded and minced
- Salt and pepper
- 2 cans (14.5 oz. each)
- 1 cup cilantro, chopped

Procedure:
Filling: Cook meat thoroughly on medium-high in a 12 inch skillet breaking it down in small crumbles. Add the jalapenos and onions for 5 minutes until soft. Mix in tomatoes and chili powder cooking on medium until thick. Season with cilantro, pepper and salt. Set to the side to cool
Dough: Combine salt, baking powder, and flour into a bowl. Mix butter into the flour mix until it becomes crumbly. Add enough water to bring the dough together.
Roll out the dough of an inch thick on a lightly floured counter. Cut out 3 inch circles and fill with a teaspoons of filling each. Place empanadas on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place in the oven on 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let sit for 10 minutes until cool.
4) Beef and Potato Empanadas
2 of the best foods to mix together. Now all you need is a side of gravy to dip it in. Try this empanada and taste the mixture of flavors that are packed inside. Whether its holiday season or not, you can rest assured everyone will enjoy this meal.

- 1 cup masa harina
- 1 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup water
- cup (1 stick) butter, unsalted, melted and cooled
- 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
Filling
- 1 lbs. ground beef
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 3 to 4 yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced
- 12 large green olives, with pimento, chopped
