Chapter 1: What Is A Chakra?

A chakra according to Hindu and/ or Buddhist beliefs can be defined as the representation of your inner self.

The human body is a mere reflection of who you are on the inside. The belief, thoughts and emotions you carry make you you. It is the physical aspect that is affected by your spiritual being.

Chakras can be dated back to when traditional Hindu culture and rituals were practiced. It has a strong relation with Yoga. The scholars who studied chakras derived its information from the Upanishads, which was derived from the four Vedas. The four Vedas are Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda. Veda means knowledge and it cant be traced back to a specific date. But the earliest Upanishad can be dated back to the seventh century. There are 108 of them of which 13 contain vital information about chakras and its importance in daily life.

A human mind is always in search of its true awakening without even realizing that the search is on. The reason being what you think of yourself and what you believe in is usually situated in your subconscious to which a lot of people dont pay heed to.

Most of your emotions, thoughts, experiences and beliefs reside in the subconscious.

So the chakras can more aptly be called the energy pools in the field of physical, mental and emotional energy from where you derive the idea of me. There are seven primary chakras where each is responsible for different aspects of your lives. This does not imply that they govern that aspect but rather how you perceive it in your mind. The energy flows through these chakras throughout your body at all times. The moment any energy faces difficulty in flowing is when you know there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

The well-being and health of a chakra is governed by how and what you think about your life and that particular aspect of it. It is similar to drawing on a piece of paper. For instance, if you draw a house, the idea of how it will look is what will be reflected in the physical form on paper.

With respect to chakras, for example, the root chakra or the muladhara chakra is responsible for the sense of connection with fellow beings and your survival. If a person feels insecure and unsafe, it means the chakra is not in harmony with the environment and other chakras and is cocooned in itself. This leads to affecting the organs that lie in the region of the root chakra; in this case its the sex organs.

Chapter 2: The Seven Chakras

T here are seven main Chakras in your body through which energy is channelized across your body. Apart from the seven, there are small chakras as well which contribute as much in keeping with your physical and mental well being. All the chakras correspond heavily with the vital organs in your body.

There are four chakras in the upper body, which take care of your mental well being while the three in the lower body take care of the instinctual properties.

The Base Chakra (Muladhara Chakra)

T he first Chakra is called the Base chakra. Its name is given is given in relation to its position in the body as is evident from the name i.e. at the bottom of the spine. Its exact location can be marked in between the anus and the genitals. It is responsible for determining your need for survival, connection and loyalty to the tribe and physical groundedness. It makes for most of your instinctual reactions. Also, it can be attributed to your understanding of the gravity of any situation. It helps you take a stand and create your own space in this world you exist. Attaining balance of this chakra makes you more confident about yourself and your work. It makes you strive for what you want and achieve it in no time. The color associated with this red. The reason associated is that red has the ability to make the wearer feel safe and secure. It also helps them keep grounded.

The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana Chakra)

T he second chakra is called the sacral chakra and is located below your navel and corresponds with the spleen. It has a very thick relation with the root chakra. It helps you understand what you are worth. It resonated with your creative talents, innocence, vulnerability and spontaneity. Like the root chakra, sacral chakra also contributes towards confidence and performing a task well. It also gives you more perspective about dealing with one particular situation. An imbalance in this chakra will lead you to doubt and question yourself. To rectify the situation, you need to take a break and harmonize your chakra. The colour associated to this chakra is orange because of it s positive nature and its capacity to enhance the feeling of pleasure and happiness.

The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura Chakra)

S ituated at the base of your sternum, this chakra has the radiance similar to that of the Sun and hence its name, the Solar Plexus Chakra. This is where all your emotions erupt. It is also associated with self-esteem, power and ego; in short your concept about yourself resides here. The capacity to love someone is generated here. Anger and passion are all results of how this chakra behaves. The intention to be a better human also springs from here. Once this chakra is balanced, you will notice how flawlessly your emotions can flow and not be a burden on you. The trust factor has also known to increase as this chakra gets balanced. It is related to the color yellow, as it is warm and positive. It is known to increase the feeling of pleasure and creativity along with bringing in abundance.

The Heart Chakra (Anahata Chakra)

T his chakra is located right at the centre of the chest and extends till the shoulder blades. It can be perceived as the centre point for spirituality and love. Compassion, confidence, trust and inspiration are braches of how this chakra extends itself. This is where your spirit and mind meet and unite. One of the most pure connections, this chakra has the worst repercussions when not balanced. You start to lose confidence, feel unworthy and are scared of getting hurt at all times. But during the times its balanced, you feel friendly and compassionate towards all. Green is the colour associated with this chakra and is considered soothing in nature. It is one of the most recommended colors for healing and meditation. It improves the mood and focus of the wearer.
