Chapter 1: Understanding The Keto Diet
T he Keto diet is a diet plan that is based on eating low carbs, high fat, and moderate protein in order to place your body into ketosis. Ketosis is the process by which your body will process the intake of fat in the liver into ketones which is then used to supply energy to the body.
Our bodies originally start providing an energy source through the carbs that we intake. Carbs are broken down into glucose. Then, our body will use it to provide energy for sustenance throughout the day. The science behind the Keto diet is to help our bodies use more fat instead of carbs to provide our energy source. In order to have energy for the whole day, we have to provide our bodies with the fuel it needs to process down into energy. This is done through carbs and fat. We start by using the glucose in the carbs for our energy. Then, once those are all used up, we move on to the ketones that have been produced when fat enters and is processed in the liver.
