Welcome to the first chapter of the Essential List Building Guide. In the first chapter, I will tell you more about what list building is and how it works. I will also tell you about how list building is implemented into existing sites to boost traffic and revenue.
List building is basically an online income opportunity that involves giving away something for free in order to collect email addresses. You are then able to market different products to the email addresses youve collected, thus monetizing your email list.
Theres a couple of steps involved in building your own successful list, and thats exactly what Im going to explain to you in this guide.
When building a list, theres hundreds of different approaches to take, different software to use, different ways to build your list. All of these strategies, terms and approaches might confuse the end-user leaving them unaware of the right steps to follow.
Its important to follow a set of guidelines when creating your first list. This involves creating a decent landing page, offering a product in exchange for an email address, driving traffic to your landing page, building your list and, of course, monetizing your list.
These all might seem like a lot of hard work; it might even seem very difficult. But do not worry, as I am going to walk you through every step you need to take in order to build and monetize a list successfully.
You now know what list building is and what it means to build your own list. Now lets look at a few features and opportunities list building has.
First of all, you should know that building a list and then monetizing that list is a real online income opportunity. This is not one of those get rich quick scams that youre used to seeing by following the correct guidelines, you will be able to build a profitable list that WILL bring you money.
So to get to the question Why build a list?
- It can open up new doors for your online business
- By following proper guidelines and putting in some effort, you will be able to build up a growing income for yourself
- By monetizing your list, you are able to pay off debt, buy a new car, or do whatever you want to do with the extra money youll make
- You can set yourself free by building up a successful list and growing your profit to a larger amount than your current salary
These are only 4 reasons why building a list is such a great idea. But by now Im sure youre able to see clearly how many benefits list building has, and why its a really great opportunity to invest in.
When youre only starting out and building your own list for the first time, it is very important to determine the total costs you will have when building your sales funnel (the landing page with a subscription form), obtaining a free product to offer your visitors, and then sending marketing emails to your list.
Luckily you can do all of this for free if you have no upfront cash to invest in your new venture. The free methods might not bring you the same results as when you invest a little money to get started, but they can be used to get started you can always upgrade to better options once you start making money.
I do recommend investing a little money to do a proper job, even when only starting out. Heres a list of the expenses that I recommend you partake when starting out to help you become more successful in a shorter period of time:
- A Custom domain name. You can grab a .xyz domain at namecheap.com for around $0.88 / $1.00.
- A Basic hosting account. You can get cheap hosting at hostgator.com. Remember to point your custom domain name to your hosting account.
- An autoresponder account. You can get a free 30-day trial at both aweber.com and getresponse.com. Theres various free autoresponders available, but they usually include branded advertising in all the email newsletters you send out. This is why its a better idea to use a popular service that will not brand your emails. TinyLetter.com is also an alternative option.
- A product to offer your visitors in exchange for their email address. If you can write a short ebook in the niche you want to target, then you can do it yourself. You can also outsource this to a freelancer on fiverr.com or olance.com
- A basic landing page with a subscriber form. If you have web design knowledge / experience, you can do this yourself. You can also outsource this step to a freelancer at fiverr.com or olance.com
By only spending a small amount of money on these 5 elements, you will be able to offer a more professional sales funnel and experience to your visitors / list, which will also help you increase your conversion rates, build your list faster and make money faster.
Whether or not you are going to make an initial investment is entirely up to you. I will be adding an Alternative Option piece wherever you can use a FREE method instead of a paid method I talk about.
