DEDICATION
This volume is dedicated to the memory of our friend and colleague, Gail Paradise Kelly, who passed away in January 1991. Gail worked closely with us on this volume. Gail Kelly's contributions to this volume and the field of comparative education were significant. She pioneered the comparative study of women and education and had a lasting impact on the development and shape of the field. She served as the President of the Comparative and International Education Society and, at the time of her death, was General Secretary of the CIES. Her intellect, compassion, activism, and grace will be missed by comparative educators. We will miss her as a cherished friend and colleague.
