About the Authors
Joan DellaValle, Ed.D., is principal of Otsego Elementary School, Half Hollow Hills School District, Dix Hills (Long Island), New York. Before taking this principalship in 1985, she was first a teacher and then an administrator in the New York City Public Schools. As a consultant with the Learning Styles Network of St. John's University, New York, she serves as national trainer, presenting workshops to teachers and administrators in school districts across the U.S. Her publications, primarily on learning styles and learning differences, have appeared in such journals as the Journal of Educational Research.
Emmett Sawyer, Ed.D., is assistant superintendent for curriculum in Springfield, Missouri. His previous education experience was as a high school principal, social studies teacher, and coach. He has served as the president of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. Like Dr. DellaValle, Dr. Sawyer serves as a consultant with the Learning Styles Network. His publications, on learning styles and transforming education, have appeared in professional journals, most notably the National Association of Secondary School Principals Bulletin.
