Our churches are full of hurting people, because they are full of ordinary men and women. Sometimes it is hard to share, especially if the issues are emotional or concerned with mental health. But the gospel speaks to the whole person, body, mind, emotions and spirit. In this book, Emma writes for those who are struggling and those who care for them. She writes not as an ivory-tower theorist, but as someone who has fought her own battles with Gods help. Taking a helpful model of moving from darkness into light, she is real about human experience, but confident in Jesus ability to enter into our struggles with his healing and redeeming power. This is a book that is both realistic and hopeful, linking experience to the gospel, so that life may be lived, moving from darkness into light.

Richard Jackson, Bishop of Lewes

What if mental health issues are not the problem of an unfortunate but limited few? What if everyone struggles? And what if there is a way forward? This is not just a book to help you understand others and help them, although it is that. This is a book to help you understand yourself, and even more importantly, to point you to the hope offered by Jesus Christ. Jesus is the one who enters into our mess, and it is when we meet him that we find hope not an instant fix, but real hope. Whether youve known Jesus for years or are yet to meet him, let Emma Scrivener point you to Christ. This book will lift your heart as you struggle, and guide you practically as you reach out to help others. May it not only help individuals, but also stir whole churches to become communities of care, help and hope.
