First, I would like to thank my martial arts instructor, Shizen Osaki, for assisting and supporting my meditation explorations. Without his assistance, I am sure this fresh approach to meditation and awareness could not have come to fruition.

Second, I give my sincere appreciation to my student, Kris Kokay, who inspired me to write this book. To my students Linda LaTores and Barbara Becker, I give my thanks for their extremely helpful feedback on the manuscript.
I would also like to thank my other students for their dedication to the meditative process and their many questions, which have served to clarify the content of this book.
To my copy-editors, Edward Austin Hall and Hester Lee Furey (who also proofread), I extend my most sincere appreciation for helping me to find my voice! My cover designer Nathaniel Dasco, I thank for the stunning cover design.
My wife, Teruko Haight, has provided patience, support, and dedication to challenging my awareness in everyday life, an invaluable practice for which I am eternally grateful.
Finally, I offer gratitude to the many supporters who financially contributed to help pay for the publishing of this book. Please know that I couldnt have done this without your support.

As of the publishing
As of the publishing of this book, I have been a dedicated meditator for more than 30 years, and I have been teaching meditation for more than a decade. From the start of my meditating practice as a teenager, I approached meditation solely as a spiritual tool. But last year, while discussing this books development in a meditation class, one of my longtime students, Kris, suggested that I take a nonspiritual approach with the book, to make the Total Embodiment Methodology available to more people.
Kris reasoned that our approach to meditation is entirely principle-based, so the practice could benefit anyone of any background, even people who are not interested in spiritual awakening. As I had always used meditation for the purpose of spiritual awakening, I had never considered making it available to the general public.
Although many people who practice TEM meditation report, as a result, experiencing a spiritual sense of connectedness with the universe, there is no reason that the Total Embodiment Method could not enhance anyones life. After all, the desire for life-enrichment is common to all human beings.
Of all the life-enrichment options available to us, meditation may be one of the wisest choices, for it leads to lasting beneficial changes in the brain that positively affect our perception of every experience that we have thereafter.
Thanks to personality, interests, and backgrounds coming into the practice, certain people may interpret the inner transformation that comes of a powerful meditation practice as being spiritual, whereas others might not think of it in spiritual terms at all. Im not sure the jargon used to describe our inner transformation matters so much as does the transformation itself the enrichment of our lives. In the final analysis, if people are becoming more aware, more loving, and more capable as a result of their meditation practice, then who is to argue?
With Kris suggestion in mind, this book is written to be of service to anyone who seeks life enrichment through greater awareness. Regardless of your background or beliefs, the principles of meditation conveyed through this book, if practiced, will prove tangibly beneficial to your life.
With sustained practice, I am confident that the awareness and inner clarity you will gain from practicing the meditations herein will help you to be a better teacher, student, parent, child, spouse, friend, employer, or employee, for no matter your position, you will be a more integrated, more capable individual than you would be otherwise. So long as your aim is to live a healthier, more vibrant, clear, inspired, authentic existence, the practices within this book can be of service to you.
