PREFACE

About the Expanded Edition

Since the release of the first edition of The Potential of Mediumship , Glynmade that transition which we will all have to make one day tospirit. Because of this, it seems fitting to include a moredetailed biography about him than before in this extended versionof the book. It should perhaps be mentioned that Glyn was neverinterested in having a biographicalbook put together about him, so placingsomething more modest in breadth in this anthology of his wisdomseems more of a logical thing to do in memory of him.

As wellas the added information about Glyn, this edition also includes twoadditional articles he dictated shortly after the first version ofthe book was published, which are two of just a few final articleshe did not long before his passing. The added articles have beendeliberately placed at the end as appendices so as not to changethe main order of the chapters from the first edition. Hopefully, readers will find the new material a beneficialaddition.

INTRODUCTION

I knewGlyn as a close friend for 26 years. In those years, we somehowmanaged to find some time to work on three books together and workon the first edition of this anthology of his teachings andcollection of exercises he used to help students move forward withtheir abilities and potential growth.

Some passages in this anthology are from the books that wejointly worked on. Others arefrom an article he did especially for the Gordon HigginsonFellowship website, an organisation Glyn founded, from discussionswith him about extra sections that could be included, and from oneof his many audio recordings. There is one place where Glyn askedfor a paragraph I had written to be included, which has been put initalics to distinguish it from Glyns words. If you wish to knowthe sources used for each chapter, they have been listed towardsthe end of this book.

This book is of course by no means an exhaustive collectionof everything Glyn had to say or wrote on the subject of the Potential ofMediumship, but it is the very first anthology of different worksby him to be published on the topic. Unlike standard books ofquotations that layout what people have written or said withoutmaking alterations, some creative editing was done. As Glyn wasactively involved in every stage of the original books formation, selecting which passages to include, how best to fit numeroussections together, and even did some light editing himself, we bothfelt some creative editing would be acceptable and beneficial inweaving various sections together in order to present the essentialmessage of the quoted sources in a readable style. We also wantedthe book to have its own uniqueness, which was the reason behindadding new material, including some personal stories ofGlyns.

Glyns teachings

In allthe years I knew Glyn, he always read widely and took a deepinterest in numerous contemporary fields of spirituality, differentreligious beliefs, various forms of healing and modern discoveriesin science and psychology. He also loved engaging in open andbeneficial dialogues with people from different traditions.Naturally, his interests in wide approaches to spirituality andmediumship are detectable in his writings.

Readers will notice that Glyns teachings on mediumshippromote a fresh contemporary perspective. He did not see any abilities we have asbeing separate from anything else. His teachings are essentially anaffirmation and holistic inclusion of all life, instead of a denialof some aspects as some teachers and different traditions havepromoted. He taught about an ongoing evolvement and explorationinto how all things continuously interrelate with each other. Thiswas never about a belief in having all the answers, which in factinhibits development, but about being open to growth at all times.Although his writings sometimes use terms such as path, journeyor quest, they are not so much about going someplace else but aboutdeepening understanding of the spirit world that is present now andin all things. Even though he mentions theimportance of transcendence at times, he never sees it as escapingfrom Earth life but including it and recognising how spiritualrealms are essentially interwoven with our physicalworld.

He oftentook mediumship out of its box in order to integrate it with thecollective responsibilities we share for each other and the naturalworld, which is comparable in many ways to Shamanisticunderstandings of spirituality and spirit contact.

As a writer and member of GreenSpirit, I find Glynsteachings to be deeply encouraging, as they take the subject ofmediumship beyond being purely human-centred either in this lifeor in the afterlife and are integrated with an active Gaia-centred spirituality that is crucial at this moment in the history ofthe world for the survival of so many of Gods creatures and theconservation of important ecosystems. For Glyn, all life andphenomena are seen as expressions of the creativity of the spiritthat is forever seeking to encourage us to awaken moreauthentically, compassionately, widely and actively to ourspiritual natures and to what knowledge of an eternal existenceimplies.

When Ifirst completed this collection of teachings and exercises by Glyn,I couldnt help noticing how it in some ways read like ameditations book. Not only because of the exercises included butalso because Glyns words present us with profound perspectives onwhich to reflect in order to uncover deeper dimensions of life andliving.

I hopeyou will find much food for replenishment in the following pages.May the paths you explore be blessed with love and wisdom and leadyou to ever-present life changing dimensions of spiritual growthand to the infinite variety of gifts that can unfold, including, asGlyn reminds us, the gifts of friendship, compassion, understandingand unity with Nature and the world of the spirit that iscontinuously seeking harmonious expression through all.

~Santoshan (Stephen Wollaston)

1. Although the main parts of our first book were creditedwith joint authorship, as we worked on each others material andcoauthored some chapters, Glyn and I obviously knew which partswere his and could be used in this anthology.
