introduction
This book is borne to you on the wings of our experience as a Tantric couple. We both arrived in India at the age of 17, searching for the essence of life. At that time we didnt know one another, even though we were initiated by the same Master, Osho into the mysteries of Tantra as a meditative path to spiritual liberation. Sarita remained in India for 26 years, and Geho for 20 years. During that time, we were each exploring all the facets of our being, moving closer and closer to our true natures. This path has been described like moving on a razors edge, because to combine meditation with love and sex, as practiced in Tantra, needs a heightened degree of sensitivity and awareness. In the community around our Master, we had the freedom to explore every facet of our sexuality and were thus challenged to discover sex as a doorway to heightened consciousness.
Those looking at Tantra from the outside can misunderstand this path, and due to such misunderstanding our Master was dubbed the Sex Guru by the press. However, his radical methods for transforming human consciousness attracted thousands of people, from many nations and all walks of life, giving rise to concern among some people that this movement could bring about an earthquake of change in the collective psyche of society. His teaching is simply the subjective path of self-transformation, from sex to superconsciousness.
Having absorbed his teaching and been transformed through it, when Osho left his body in 1990 we were ready to begin sharing what we had learned. Initially both of us chose holistic healing arts as an avenue of expression. Geho became a massage therapist and teacher and Sarita became a Color Light Therapist and teacher. It was during our work in the healing arts that we met and became friends, in the early 1990s.
In 1994 we decided to embark on an experiment. We both wished to explore deeply, and yet in a scientific way, the effect of a series of Tantra meditations to be practiced in sex. We scheduled 28 Tantra meditation appointments, with the agreement that no matter what arose emotionally, mentally, or physically, we would see the appointments through to their conclusion. After that, we would be free of any commitment. Each appointment took place in a sacred space we had consecrated for the occasion. We began by invoking higher consciousness to bless our union. We bowed down to the principle of love itself, as embodied in each other. And during the meditation, we kept uppermost the remembrance that this man and this woman represented the feminine principle and the masculine principle, beyond personality. We regarded each other as god and goddess. In this setting, and through our Tantra practice together, we were both transformed beyond what we had ever dreamed was possible between a man and a woman. Our sexual experience was lifted up into the purifying fire of love. We discovered, as it is said in Tantra, that sex and Samadhi (spiritual awakening) are one.
After this experience, we returned to our ordinary everyday reality, letting go of all Tantra meditation practice and giving time for the transformation to be integrated. We discovered that this is a valuable approach, allowing the pendulum to swing in both directions. The first series of meditations were so powerful in their effect, that after some time we decided to embark on another series. We continued in this way, scheduling series of Tantra appointments, and then letting go into ordinariness, back and forth, back and forth, giving equal space to both dimensions. One day, by surprise, while we were in our ordinary phase, the pendulum arrived in the middle. Our godly and human aspects met in deep union. This experience brought with it a sudden awakening and a deep crystallization of our inner mastery of Tantra. The Tantra path became so clear to us that we found ourselves very naturally inspired to share our discovery through Tantra groups. We devised a seven-level Tantra training for couples and a three-level Tantra training for singles. Subsequently we moved to Europe, where our teaching was received with gratefulness and enthusiasm.
During our years of teaching, working with couples and individuals from many different nationalities, of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds, we have discovered that sharing the Tantric way of life is really all about helping people to remember and embrace what is already inside. Each person carries both human and divine qualities; sexuality, animality, and sacredness are an integral part of our being. The art and science of Tantra is helping these opposite qualities to meet and merge, giving birth to a refinement of being, where sex and spirituality can be celebrated as an integrated whole.
