- UPDATED EDITION PROLOGUE -

What I wrote more than five-years ago has been proven true time and time again and blessed the many lives weve touched.

If someone would have told me that Id be married to a former runway model from Ukraine and later be featured on a Discovery Channel documentary for creating a revolutionary new system for helping create marriages between people from different countries I would have said, You must be mistaking me for someone else.

Back in 2004 I had a computer leasing company. My life of a salesman in California was domestic and common to most men youd meet in America. I hadnt been outside of the US since I was a teenager in the early 1980s. But it was in 2004 that I was invited to join a group of men on a fishing trip to the Amazon River in Brazil. It was life changing in many ways, as you can imagine! Catch me in person sometime and Ill tell you the stories of Cayman hunting at night with the local natives. I was now completely fascinated with everything foreign.

A year later I traveled back to do the same fishing trip on the Amazon again, but this time we had an extended stay at the end of the trip in the city of Manaus, Brazil. The question was posed to me, Would you like to meet some local ladies? The man asking was a retired Navy Seal who lived there. He meant it sincerely, not to introduce me to anything seedy, but to help satisfy my curiosity for everything about this culture.

I spent that day with a wonderful young Brazilian lady. She showed me how families meet together at the beach and what life is like for Brazilians, both poor and rich. But the biggest impact she made on me was how she treated me with such value and respect. I dont remember her name, but Ill never forget the world she introduced me to.

This book will take you from that experience all the way through my first months of marriage to my Ukrainian wife Anna. But what it wont tell you is what happened in the seven years that have followed.

A few years after Anna and I married I was encouraged to write the original book, Mastering the Adventure of International Dating, which came out in 2009. In 2010 we were on The TODAY Show with Matt Lauer, Dr. Phil Show, featured on a cable special on Womens Entertainment Network, and were interviewed on more than 50 radio talk shows. That was amazing enough, but I never could have imagined the sequence of events that would follow.

Several men who had read my book made the effort to go overseas in hopes of duplicating our success. But what they reported back to me was that they only found scammers, prostitutes and professional daters waiting for them. It frustrated me; no, it pained me deeply. I knew another side to these cultures a warm and genuine side. I knew that my wife, her friends, and other multi-national couples wed met were welcoming and giving people. Conversely, many of the sincere women overseas believed that many foreign men were only coming for sex vacations and they had doubts about our intentions as Westerners. The whole thing had a bad mail order bride stigma and I wanted so much for good people to experience what I had experienced.

A friend named Rick said we should create our own type of retreat a weeklong event where sincere people could meet in fun and respectful ways that could possibly lead to more multi-national marriages. We brainstormed for hours on end, day after day, about what that would look like. The result was the creation of the Quest Tour Experience, a series of introduction events we would develop and host in the country of Ukraine. Today, these tours have helped create more multi-national marriages than we could have possibly imagined when we started.

The reason for this Fifth Year in Print Edition is to take the book I wrote in 2009 and insert some of the wonderful things weve learned since then.

Today my wife operate Dream Connections International, Inc. along with an amazing team of brilliant and warm-hearted people: Jason, Jeff, Jerry, Juan, Lilia (my mother-in-law), Marina, Olya, Sasha, Vitali, and more. Additionally, we give back to the community there by supporting an orphanage in Annas hometown of Nikolaev, Ukraine.

We have become thought-leaders in this world of international dating and multi-national marriage. And weve helped introduce dozens of married couples and received half a dozen proud announcements of new babies born among some of them. Its humbling to see what God has done to bless lives through Dream Connections and us.

This updated edition is for the man who is new to the idea of dating overseas and to the man who has tried it before and only found frustration. We can tell you with assured confidence that weve really discovered something very special here and youll be glad you took the time to learn from what youll find in this book. What you are holding in your hand is sound, reliable, and proven.

INTRODUCTION

WHY DATE INTERNATIONALLY?

Why on Earth would anyone travel outside of their own country to date?

Thats a fair question why would you look beyond your local watering hole for romantic endeavors? Let me answer it this way. Imagine having a woman in your life whos affectionate, who completely adores you, admires you, and causes heads to turn because of her radiant beauty. Imagine having a relationship that alternates between totally comfortable and totally hot with passion. This is a woman who holds your arm as you walk down the street and looks into your eyes with such pride as if to say, This is my man and I love him so much. He makes me feel like the luckiest woman alive. Got it?

Now, imagine this affection and adoration is coming to you from a genuine heart that has no other agenda but to make sure you are both happy.

Why would I describe such a scenario? Because Ive been living it every day since I met Anna Astafieva in Nikolaev, Ukraine on December 10th, 2006!

So, how did it happen?

It all began when I sat down and asked myself what type of woman I wanted to have by my side and what kind of relationship I wanted to experience. That was easy. I wanted a beautiful woman with traditional values where our relationship comes first, and who loves me unconditionally (and guys, if you say thats not what you want, youre lying to yourself). Now for the hard part: where am I going to find her? In my town? Online? Local bars and clubs? Yeah, right. Or, as Dr. Phil would say, Hows that workin for ya?
