Starting a blog can seem to be a daunting task, especially if youre thinking about using your blog as a main source of income to support yourself. Making money with your blog can be very difficult, especially if you dont know what youre doing. Thats probably why youve purchased this book! Worry no more, as making a substantial income with your blog is completely possible, even if youre just starting out.
- Start a blog
One of the beauties of blogging is that each and every successful blogger who makes a profit from their site does it through a combination of income streams. There is no right way to start making money off of your blog; there are literally an endless amount of possibilities that you can choose from to make a profit off of your blog.
But, you cant make money off of your blog if you dont have a blog! In order to start making any profit off of your site, you need to create a platform and build a following. Doing so takes a lot of time, creativity, and hustle, but once you find your way to making that profit, all of the time and energy you spent putting into your blog will truly pay off. If youre reading this book, you
- Create useful content
In order to build yourself a blog that makes money, you need to spend time creating content that people actually want to read. While it is important to create content that people want to read, its equally important to create content that help people in some way. Your blog posts are going to receive more hits if you write posts about dinner ideas that cost less than $5 a meal rather than writing a post that talks about how much you love your dog. Now dont get me wrong, if you want to create a blog about your dog, do it! But, you shouldnt expect to make a whole lot of money off of your personalized dog blog if you arent offering new, knowledgeable information to your readers. People are on your blog because they are looking for:
- A form of entertainment
- Information that is going to educate them
- An opinion to relate to
- Something that goes against mainstream media
- Specific questions
- Debates
- A variety of opinions
If your blog (or the blog youre thinking about creating) doesnt offer one of the above listed items, people arent going to want to look at your blog.
Think of your blog like a physical business- matter of fact, lets think of it as a bakery.
A successful bakery (blog) sells a variety of different items; they sell donuts, cakes, cookies, breads, all in different flavors. Theres a large variety of services that the bakery is filling for people who are looking for specific things. In blogging terms, a successful blog has a variety of different articles on different topics and each article answers a specific need for your audience. Certainly, you can run a beauty blog and only cover that topic. But, not many people are going to read your blog if you only ever post about one product or only talk about how much you love lipstick. People are looking for a variety of topics, so write that beauty blog, but talk about what your favorite mascara is, tips to get the perfect pedicure, skin care, and etc.
A bakery that isnt so successful only sells chocolate chip cookies. Thats it. These cookies dont even look appealing, as theyre burnt around the edges. Another important key to running a successful blog is that you want your blog to be visiually appealing; dont use:
- Fonts that are hard to read
- Colors that are difficult to read on a screen
- Use text size that is too small
- Blurry images
You want to maintain a consistent theme on your blog; for example, I use the colors pink, grey, and black on my blog. I stick to a specific font for all of my articles and all of my social media graphics use the same three types of fonts. Consistency is key, whether its visual or posting.
