About the Editor


James M. Rippe, MD, is regarded as one of the leading authorities in the United States on preventive cardiology, health and fitness, and healthy weight loss. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School with postgraduate training at Massachusetts General Hospital, he is an associate professor of medicine (cardiology) at Tufts University School of Medicine, a professor of biomedical sciences at the University of Central Florida, and the founder and current director of the Rippe Lifestyle Institute. The Rippe Lifestyle Institute is considered among the worlds leading health research, communication, and promotion organizations, exploring how daily habits and actions affect short- and long-term health and quality of life. The institute has published hundreds of studies that form the scientific basis for the fields of lifestyle medicine and high-performance health. The Rippe Lifestyle Institute also conducts numerous studies every year on nutrition and healthy weight management.

He also serves as chair of the Center for Lifestyle Medicine at the University of Central Florida, the first university-based organization to conduct basic research and teach students at all levels in the area of lifestyle medicine. He has authored more than 300 publications on issues in medicine, health and fitness, and weight management. He is the author of more than 40 books, including a widely used textbook on intensive and coronary care as well as 18 books on health and fitness for the general public, focusing on how a combination of exercise and proper nutrition can empower people to live a healthier lifestyle.
