Minecraft experience, with only minor differences, but multiplayer is limited to each edition.

WHICH DEVICE?
You can play Minecraft on lots of devices,
from cellphones to gaming consoles and
even VR headsets. Depending on the device
you use, youll play either Bedrock Edition
or Java Edition. Bedrock is the edition that
allows cross-platform play between consoles,
mobile devices and Windows, while Java is
the original Minecraft edition and allows for
cross-platform play between Windows, Linux
and macOS.
TOP TIp
If youre unsure
which edition to pick,
ask your friends
which they play.
Using the same
edition allows for
cross-platform
multiplayer!
JOIN A SERVER
Looking to join your friends
on an existing server? You can
click on Multiplayer and join
them by adding their server.
Simply type in the server
name and address, click
Done and select the server
from the Multiplayer menu.
Before you dive into the Overworld, you must first decide how youre
going to play and on what device. If you want to play with your friends, its
important you choose the right game edition. This book focuses on Minecraft:
Bedrock Edition, which differs ever so slightly from Minecraft: Java Edition.
SINGLE PLAYER VS. MULTIPLAYER
Once youve chosen an edition and installed
the game, its time to choose your adventure.
In Minecraft you can choose to play either
single player or multiplayer.
Multiplayer can be played
online and in LAN mode
(multiple devices in the
same home). If you want
to play with friends, you
can join a LAN game on
your network at home, or
a server hosted online.
Single player is the default mode.
If this is your first time playing, you
should play in single player until
you get used to the controls and the
game. You may even find you prefer
building and exploring alone!
SURVIVAL MODE
With unfamiliar terrain and dangerous mobs lurking nearby,
taking your first step into the Overworld in Survival mode can be
challenging. To get through it, youll have to prepare yourself
for the unknown dangers ahead. But where to start? With no set
route to follow, its up to you to forge your own path through
