Picture 5 No. 5 steel hook or size hook needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE

Rnds 19 = 3 inches across; 12 jdc = 4 inches; 12 jdc rows = 4 inches.

BASIC STITCHES

Ch, sl st, sc, dc, hdc, tr

SPECIAL STITCHES

For picot, ch 3, sl st in third ch from hook.

For first joined double crochet (first jdc), (yo, insert hook in next ch sp, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) 2 times, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

For joined double crochet (jdc), yo, insert hook in same ch sp as last dc made, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, insert hook in next ch sp, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

For 6-dc scallop, (dc, picot) 5 times in next ch sp, dc in same ch sp as last dc made.

For 8-dc scallop, (dc, picot) 7 times in next ch sp, dc in same ch sp as last dc made.

INSTRUCTIONS

Rnd 1: For large center rose, ch 8, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 16 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc. (16 sc made)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 3, skip next st, (sc in next st, ch 3, skip next st) around, join. (8 sc, 8 ch sps)

Rnd 3: For petals, (sl st, ch 1, sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in first ch sp, (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch sp around, join. (8 petals)

Rnd 4: Sl st back into sp between first and last sc, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 4; working behind petals, (sc in next sp between petals, ch 4) around, join. (8 ch sps)

Rnd 5: For petals, (sl st, ch 1, sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in first ch sp, (sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch sp around, join.

Rnd 6: Sl st back into sp between first and last sc, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 5; working behind petals, (sc in next sp between petals, ch 5) around, join.

Rnd 7: For petals, (sl st, ch 1, sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc) in first ch sp, (sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch sp around, join.

Rnd 8: Sl st back into sp between first and last sc, ch 1, sc in same sp, (ch 6; working behind petals, sc in next sp between petals) around, ch 3, join with dc in first sc (ch sp and joining dc counts as joining ch sp).

Rnd 9: For petals, (ch 3, 4 dc, hdc, sc) in joining ch sp, (sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch sp around to joining ch sp, (sc, hdc, 4 dc) in joining ch sp, join with sl st in top of ch-3.

Rnd 10: Ch 15, (sc in fifth dc of next petal, ch 11, tr in fifth dc of next petal, ch 5 at corner, tr in same st as last tr, ch 11) 3 times, sc in fifth dc of next petal, ch 11, tr in same dc of first petal as ch-15, ch 2, join with dc in fourth ch of ch-15 at corner.

Rnd 11: Ch 8, dc in joining ch sp, *ch 2, dc in next tr, (ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next st or ch) 8 times, ch 2, (dc, ch 5, dc) in next corner ch-5 sp; repeat from * 2 more times, ch 2, dc in next tr, (ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next st or ch) 8 times, ch 2, join with dc in third ch of ch-8.

A: First jdc, (ch 2, jdc) 8 times, dc in next jdc;

D: Repeat steps A, B and C consecutively 2 more times;

E: Repeat step A;

Rnd 16: Ch 6, sl st in third ch from hook, (dc, picot, dc, picot, dc) in joining ch sp; complete the rnd as follows:
