T here once was a golden hen, who laid eggs of the shiniest gold. But one spring day, as the hen had finished laying her latest basket of eggs, she looked down and saw, her eggs were snow white, not golden!
She hopped off her nest, and clocking wildly ran all around it.
Why? Oh! Why are my eggs not gold?
The golden hen was running so quick around her nest that her feet tangled and down she went letting out a very loud, Cluck!
Whats all this noise? asked a fat pig peeking through the chicken coops door.
My eggs are white, not gold! cried the hen, who sat sobbing on the ground.
If you want golden eggs, you can boil, or fry them. The pig recommended in a dreamy voice while drool ran down his mouth to puddle on the floor.
The hen stood up quickly letting out a gasp. She stood up so quick that she bumped her head with the wooden plank overhead.
My eggs are not for boiling, or frying you hungry pig! she protested as stars circled her head.
A duck, who happened to waddle by, heard the conversation and hopped on the pigs head saying, What about putting them in the sun?
Great idea! the hen exclaimed and dashed off to grab an egg basket.
Promptly filling the basket, she picked it up and ran outside, clocking happy all the way.
A raccoon came sniffing by and murmured, Those sun roasted eggs are smelling delicious.
The hen eyed him suspiciously and warned, Another step closer to my eggs and Ill peck your tail.
The raccoon laughed and hungrily sat down in front of the eggs basket, tail curled around his legs.
You have so many tasty eggs, wont you spare one or two for me? asked the raccoon with a twitch of his tail.
With ruffled feathers, the hen leaned over the basket and said, Not one, not two, not even three I will trade for a single hair on your furry tail.
Not taking no for an answer, the raccoon stood quick as lightning, swiped two eggs from the basket and dashed off.
Before raccoon could get too far, the hen landed on top of his head. In a world wind of feathers, and pecked and clawed at him.
With a yell, the raccoon let go of the eggs and curled his body inwards to protect himself from the hen, but he ended up rolling down a slope and crashing against a tree murmuring, Im taking eggs off my menu.
A bunny whod hopped by caught the eggs and happily skipping handed them over to the hen, who sat crying by her basket of white eggs.
When he asked what was wrong, the hen explained shed been trying to turn her eggs golden, but the sun had only roasted them.
Hopping from foot to foot the Bunny said, What if instead of turning them gold, you could have eggs in all the colors of the rainbow?
The hen looked at him with interest and asked, How?
The bunny told her to stay and hopped in the direction of the carrots field.
When he returned a few minutes later, he brought with him twelve baby bunnies, each carrying paint brushes, watercolors, and glitter.
Sitting on the basket, they asked the hen to let them borrow some of the eggs. Feeling curious the hen nodded, and one by one the bunnies painted the eggs.
There were blue eggs, yellow, red, pink, and purple too. Eggs with colorful spots, stripes and animals painted on them as well.
Thanking the bunnies for their help, she went to show off her colorful basket of eggs to the rest of the animals in the barnyard.
From that day on, whenever the hen laid her eggs in spring, and they turned out white, she called the bunnies to paint them. Thats how the Easter eggs became so colorful!
T here once was a tiny bunny, named Lili, who loved going on adventures. Unfortunately, her adventures got her into a lot of trouble most of the time.
One sunny spring day, Lili was hopping along the cabbage and carrots patch near Mr. Foxs home.
Mr. Fox was a very old and grouchy Fox, who strongly disliked any bunny who came near his crops. He also grew the crunchiest carrots and largest cabbages in the village so Lili couldnt help sneaking a few from under his whiskers from time to time.
That spring morning, Lili was feeling especially adventurous, so she dared to hop further into the carrots than ever before. She happily hopped from carrot to carrot, pulling some along the way and eating it as she went.
With perky ears and nimble hops, Lili made sure to stay out of sight from Mr. Fox, who busily worked in the cabbage fields.
Suddenly a twig snapped from the right. Lili gasped and swallowed a whole piece of carrot without chewing. She started coughing, and quickly she hopped away.
I got you now! shouted Mr. Fox triumphant as he ran forwards and grabbed hold of Lilis fussy white tail and lifted her into the air by it.
Let me go! protested Lili squirming and trying to wriggle free.
Youll make a tasty bunny stew! laughed Mr. Fox as he threw Lili into a sack and fasten it tightly.
Bunny sack was thrown over his back; Mr. Fox happily ran to his home.
Once inside the kitchen, Mr. Fox dropped the sack with a squirming Lili on a corner and walked out singing, Onions, cabbage, carrots and figs, a tasty bunny stew for me!
From inside the darkened sack, Lili wiggled her nose and sneezed. Hearing the door slam, she waited a few minutes then began to shout at the top of her lungs, Help! Help!
A couple of songbirds who flew by heard Lilis crys, recognizing the bunnys voice, they flew into Mr. Foxs kitchen through a tiny window and tweeting grabbed hold of the sacks strings.
They untangled the knot and pulled the strings apart, but just as the sack opened up, Mr. Fox stormed in through the door.
Leave my dinner alone! he shouted and grabbing a pan shooed the birds away.
Lili distracted him by hopping on his counter and throwing things down. The birds tweeted and pecked Mr. Foxs ears, tail, and nose, making the grumpy fox do a silly dance. Meanwhile, Lili pushed a bag of baking flour on top of his head.
Blinded by the flour and coughing, Mr. Fox couldnt keep up and fell with a loud crash to the ground while Lili hopped out the door, and the birds flew out the window.
