Introduction
If you need a cake but only have a few minutes to spare, a dump cake is what you need to make. Grab a box cake mix, some milk, butter and whatever type of mix ins you will be using and poof, your cake is practically done. Dump cakes are made by simply dumping the ingredients in a pan (or in many cases an awesome slow cooker) and baking- so easy! The result will be a gooey cake that is bursting with fresh flavor. No one will ever know that it only took a few minutes to make!
I decided to write a cookbook revolving around dump cakes after constantly finding myself in a bind when it came to baking cakes. I just never have the time but the cakes still need to be made! I love to turn to dump cakes. With no eggs needed and mo mixer involved, these recipes are so simple and so easy that anyone, and I mean anyone, can make a cake worthy of a gold medal. Start with something simple like a blueberry dump cake which literally only requires cake mix, blueberry pie filling, vanilla, butter and milk. Give the s'mores cake a try next for a nice sticky treat. Really, you can't go wrong with an of these recipes.
Once you make your first dump cake, you are never going to make a regular cake again- why bother? It's way too much work for almost the same result! So, ditch the mixer, forget about hauling out the sugar and flour and eggs grab a box of cake mix and throw it in a pan and watch as a miraculous cake appears!
Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake
This dump cake recipe is a classic as it combines two of the most readily available baking ingredients- chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling. Simple, delicious- what more could you ask for?!
Yield: 18 Servings
Active Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 42 Ounces of cherry pie filling (about 2 cans)
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 Tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
1. Pour cherry pie filling into a 9 x 13 pan. The pan should have sides that go up at least two inches high as well.
2. Pour the vanilla on top of the pie mix and stir to combine.
3. Pour the dry chocolate cake mix over the top of the cherries. Try to sprinkle it across the top of the whole pan rather than dumping it directly in one section just for ease of mixing!
4. Stir the cherry pie filling and cake mix together until well combined. Try to ensure that there are no dry cake mix lumps.
5. Pour the melted butter over the top of the mix and stir briefly. The butter does not need to be fully incorporated.
6. Transfer the pan to a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for about 35-45 minutes or until the cake springs back to the touch and the center is no longer wet.
7. Remove the pan from the oven and allow to cool.
8. Slice directly from the pan and serve!
Blueberry Dump Cake
When you go to make this cake, you really only need 4 ingredients and 10 minutes. Thats it! And you will have a delicious moist cake as a result that everyone will love.
Yield: 18 Servings
Active Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 42 Ounces of blueberry pie filling (about 2 cans)
- 1 box vanilla cake mix
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 Tablespoons melted butter
Directions:

Chocolate Dream
If you love chocolate then this is the dump cake for you! Chocolate pudding, chocolate cake and chocolate chips make this a triple chocolate explosion. Oh, and since it's a dump cake and made using a slow cooker, it's extremely easy!!
Yield: 16 servings
Active Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix
- 1 Box chocolate pudding mix
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup cream
- 6 Tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
1. Pour the chocolate cake mix, chocolate pudding mixes and chocolate chips into a slow cooker. Mix together to combine all the dry ingredients.
2. Add the milk, cream and butter to the slow cooker and stir slightly to make sure all of the dry ingredients are nice and wet.
3. Turn the slow cooker to low heat and cook the dump cake for about 4 hours.
4. After 4 hours, check the cake and make sure the edges spring back to the touch. The center of the cake will always be a little gooey but that is how a dump cake should be!
5. Slice and serve the cake right out of the slow cooker.
