Preface
Nothing so terrorizes so many otherwise competent adults as the prospect of having to write something (unless it's having to make a speech, which when you think about it, isn't really very different). They think of thirty-eight things they have to do first. They clean their desk, catch up on their phone calls, sharpen their pencil (figuratively or literally), pull out all their background files and a few others just in case everything possible to postpone the moment of truth: facing the blank page (or computer screen).
Fear Of Writing
Picture 10Picture 11
Words fly, writings remain. (Litera scripta manet, verbum ut inane perit.)
Latin Proverb
Fear of writing originates from some serious misconceptions:
Picture 12
That writing is hard or mysterious, or both
Picture 13
That writing is a form of English significantly different from common speech
Picture 14
That writing skill is a gift that some people have and some don't
