INTRODUCTION The advent of various gadgets and technology has made our lives busier than ever before. Many people simply dont have the time to cook meals as they used to. Takeaway and microwave dinners are convenient but they are no substitute for a home-cooked meal. Slow cookers (also known as crock pots in some parts of the world) are one of the solutions to this problem.
They eliminate the need to spend rigorous hours in the kitchen to create a delicious and nutritious meal in the comfort of your home. This book has a collection of over a hundred slow cooker recipes for various types of food and various courses; breakfast, soups, poultry, beef, lamb, veal, vegetables, seafood, dips, appetizers, and desserts. All of the recipes were carefully picked in order to provide you with as many options as possible so that cooking can never be a boring experience for you. All the meals are designed to serve two people and if you wish to serve more than 2, you can adjust the measurements accordingly. As with most recipes, there are some ingredients which you may decide not to include either due to health reasons or other factors. Feel free to do so and experiment with various ingredients.
This book should act as a guide for your slow cooking endeavours and if you feel like adding a little extra something to the recipes mentioned here, you are free to do so. Happy Cooking! What Is A Slow Cooker? A slow cooker is a kitchen appliance that cooks food very slowly. The food is cooked via simmering at low temperatures, as opposed to other conventional methods which rely on higher temperatures. You can buy a slow cooker from many retailers at an affordable price. When purchasing a slow cooker, you should remember that, although theyre very similar in terms of their basic use, they have varying levels of functionality. For example, some have browning functions which allows you to easily cook and brown certain food correctly in the slow cooker pot, as opposed to having to get an extra pan.
Some also have timers which turn off the heat once the pre-programmed cooking time elapses. This helps to avoid overcooking or burning of food (although its generally difficult to burn food in a slow cooker). What Are The Advantages Of Using A Slow Cooker? The benefits of using a slow cooker are many. Some of these are: a) Saves time : A slow cooker normally cooks everything in one go. So theres normally no need to constantly stir, and check on your food. You simply prepare the ingredients, throw them in the slow cooker, and let it do the rest.
In many cases you can leave the slow cooker on in the morning, head to work, and come back home to a cooked meal. b) Saves energy : A slow cooker requires very little electricity to operate. As such it will help you minimize the electricity bill, as opposed to using a conventional cooker, oven, or other appliance which requires a lot of energy to run. A slow cooker also normally uses less water than other methods of cooking. c) Rich tasting food : food cooked in a slow cooker simmers at low temperatures over long periods of time. This enables it to fully absorb spices, and lets the flavors blend.
As a result, the food will be tasty and very rich in flavor. d) Reduced chances of burning food : since food cooks at very low temperatures in a slow cooker, the likelihood of burning it are very low. However, it should be noted that food can still be overcooked if its left for too long. e) Easy clean up : since everything is cooked in a single pot, there are fewer dishes to clean than if youre cooking using other methods which require several pans and pots. Now you can see why slow cooking is increasing in popularity. Even those with very little experience in the kitchen can whip up a dish or two effortlessly in a slow cooker.
It should be noted that the size of slow cookers vary. If one of the recipes contained in this book has ingredients which are too big to fit in your slow cooker you can adjust them accordingly. One common method is to stack the ingredients on top of each other inside the slow cooker pot. Another alternative is to slice the ingredients into smaller pieces. You can decide which is best depending on your particular situation and the dish that youre preparing.
