Welcome!
Hello!
W e welcome you in your new eGuide Nature: "Mapping a forest or a land", a practical guide which we hope will help you measure, map and model by yourself a forest or terrain in order to carry out preliminary projects and/or draw up 3D plans at a lower cost. You are going to learn how to use the free SketchUp software in order to make 3D plans.
You may have an idea, a construction project that is close to your heart and not have yet the money or will to pay the services of surveyors, geometers, engineers and architects?
It is quite possible to carry out with the help of another person and within a few hours a fairly accurate mapping of a forest or a sloping terrain in order to generate a three-dimensional points cloud and draw up several temporary plans to make decisions based on several configurations of the terrain or layout for the proposed constructions.
With the presented method, you are going to make big savings as part of a preliminary project. You can always decide to make accurate measurements afterward, if necessary.
Here are some examples in which this method will be useful:
- Design and build one or more tree-climbing courses
- Building a house, a hut
- Make a quick measure of a sloping ground (with or without trees) for which there is no plan established by a land surveyor
- Landscape a garden or land with different structures (recreation, swimming pool, shed, etc.)
- Set up a recreation area (kart track, terraces, bike trails, etc.)
Attention, this manual will help you to take action by yourself but it does not substitute to the services of the professionals mentioned above, who are the only authorized persons to issue legal documents that you can submit to the local and national authorities if you decide to build something. For all building permits or authorizations, always refer to the laws and regulations in your country!
What are we going to discuss in this practical guide?
W e are going to set the scene for the simple methodology to follow, from the theoretical basis to the step-by-step method. Let yourself be guided and do not be afraid to get back to school and redo a little geometry, you will see: it is easy!
Depending on the capabilities of your reading device, you can enjoy zoom features in the pictures. Anyway you can use highlighted hyperlinks throughout the eBook. We did our best to make your reading experience as pleasant as possible, despite the great technology differences between several reading devices.
Be sure that we will propose to you more interactive versions, as the formats and eBook readers should be standardized in the future!
Okay, so here we go!
Sincerely,
Cristina & Olivier Rebire
