Foreword

Many of the worlds top breeders have beeninvolved in contributing to this book, and once youve read thebook, you will have all the information you need to make awell-informed decision about whether or not the Cavapoo is thebreed for you.

As an expert trainer and professional dogwhisperer, I would like to teach you the human side of theequation, so you can learn how to think more like your dog andeliminate behavioral problems with your pet.

If youre like I am and encounter many dogsin your daily life, you may suddenly be hearing the words hybridor designer dogs frequently.

The Cavapoo is a crossbreed that combines theCavalier King Charles Spaniel and Miniature or Toy Poodle.

Cavapoos live up to the hybrid expectation. They are known for their friendly and outgoing personality, whichmakes them great family pets. They are also cuddly and social dogsthat need lots of attention.

While Cavapoos can make excellent companions,it is important to understand the advantages, disadvantages andpotential health problems of both Cavaliers and Poodles beforebuying.

The information in this book will help you toform a fuller sense of what life with a Cavapoo would be like andarm you with the correct questions to ask in your discussions withbreeders.

Chapter 1 What Are Cavapoos?

The Cavapoo is one of the oldest designercrossbreeds. Cavapoos were first bred in the USA during the 1950swith the goal of creating a friendly, non-shedding dog that didntsuffer from the genetic conditions associated with Cavaliers.

It wasnt until the 1980s that crossbreeddogs or hybrids started to become a popular alternative topurebreds.

Crossbreeds that are half Poodle, such asLabradoodles and Cockapoos, have become particularly common due tothe Poodles intelligence and non-shedding coat. The Cavapoo isbred around the world but is especially popular in countries suchas the UK and Australia (the breed is called the Cavoodle inAustralia).

The Cavapoo has not been selectively bred forits appearance, which is why its considered a crossbreed. Thisalso means that its not possible to guarantee a Cavapoo puppy willinherit the desired characteristics of the parent breeds. Even so,the Cavapoo is usually a lovely dog with a friendly, confidentpersonality.
