1. Before you begin
P ublished and developed by Epic Games, Fortnite has been a worldwide success since it was released in 2017, thanks to its Battle Royale game mode.
Available free of charge for download on PC, Mac, consoles (PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch), Android, and iOS, Fortnite Battle Royale isnt an action or shooting game like the others: its primarily a game of survival in which youll need to be able to travel through hostile territory...
At first, everything seems fine: up to 100 players are on board a flying blue bus thats gliding smoothly over an ocean and gradually approaching an island.
Once the bus is above land, the driver opens the doors.
Are you hesitating to jump? Are you nervous about leaping into the void? Unfortunately, you have no choice: you have 30 seconds or less because youve just bought your ticket for the Battle Royale!
In the course of this wild adventure, youll be moving through a fun, brightly colored world, where foothills and plains sit alongside cities and lakes. But youre not there to be a tourist!
Theres only one law here: survival of the fittest. The other 99 players arent there to just hang outtheyre there to eliminate you. And its a no-holds-barred battle. The island and its combatants take no pity. You need to always be on the lookout.
Every player dreams of one thing: being the last survivor and becoming Victory Royale. To do that, its essential to have a few tricks on hand, and well be giving you those in this guide. That way, youll be able to handle any situation, even the most unexpected.
Game modes
W hether youre on your own or playing with others, youre sure to find the game mode that suits you best.
Solo mode is obviously when youre playing alone. You dont have any alliesits just you and 99 other combatants. Only one fighter will remain. This is the most popular game mode.
If youre a beginner, its the ideal mode for getting some practice against real players. Some of them are very experienced and will keep you on your toes. If you like a challenge and you want to make rapid progress, dont hesitatejust jump into solo mode. Take some risks, dare to go out in search of your enemies, and challenge them. Try out the weapons that are available to you and see what you think of them. Practice until youre familiar with them and youve mastered them. Some will undoubtedly be more familiar to you than others.
For duo mode , we recommend that you share the experience with a friend, but its entirely possible to play with someone you dont know.
Here, 100 players are divided into teams of two people. Same map, same weapons available, and always the same objective: survival.
However, duo mode is different from solo mode, because it allows you to communicate. Communication will be essential and decisive. You might need a headset and mic or some other way to communicate with your comrade in arms. Warn your partner when you spy enemies. Create strategies and watch out for each other. Trade weapons, help each other out. The two of you can build structures as a team to be more efficient. Together, youll be stronger.
If your teammate is unlucky enough to be hit by a rival and his health is drained, remember that he still has a second chance. Youll have a few seconds to revive him. However, if youre not fast enough and his executioner delivers another burst of gunfire, youll find yourself alone.
Your companion will still be connected to the match but wont be able to play with you any longer. But hell still be able to chat with you and see you. If he wants, he can start another game on his own or in mutiplayer mode.
Lastly, you can form a group and play in squad mode . Squad mode is definitely the most fun, and you wont be able to stop laughing.
If youre a beginner start with solo mode, then advance into squad mode. Get accustomed to the game commands and test your skills against your enemies. Its ideal for practicing one-on-one. Roam around the island to become more familiar with it. That way, you wont be in unknown territory when you have partners. When you feel ready, go for it!
If you have the chance to play alongside some experienced friends, their knowledge is good to draw on. They can offer advice and guide you throughout the match.
On the other hand, if youre a hardened player, be fearless and make the most of your experience in squad mode!
You can play single and duo squads using the fill button. Or, the 100 combatants can be divided into teams of three or four players. Here, communication is more critical than ever, and acting on your own is not recommended. Be generous: if you have a maximum supply of weapons, but one of your teammates is low, donate some. If you dont want to share anything, go back to solo mode! A squad means cooperation!
Be organized. Assign yourselves roles. One player can have the job of providing cover to one of your sidekicks with sniper fire; someone else can be responsible for demolishing enemy structures; the two others can attack enemies who get close. Always stay grouped together. Dont venture out alone like some knight in shining armor. Your rivals will take on the task of bringing you back down to earth.
