SAVE YOUR ASKS
PRAISE FOR SAVE YOUR ASKS
Many authors, including myself for The Millennial Whisperer , waste their asks with very influential people asking for endorsements of their book.
What is most important to me is that this content connects with you. What I care about more is what you think, not them.
So, for this book, I decided to save my asks and let the content speak for itself.

To my two daughters, Finley and Marlin, I hope you can continue to hone your tenacity and resilience, and I hope this book will allow you both to ruthlessly pursue your passions.
FOREWORD
In April 2019, I published The Most Powerful Woman in the Room Is You , a book to inspire and motivate women to find confidence in their voice and learn how to sell their way to success.
As the lead charity auctioneer for Christies auction house based in New York City, I had spent more than 16 years onstage raising money for nonprofits around the world. As I stood backstage before hundreds of auctions, waiting as we neared the moment when I would stride purposefully onstage, hammer down the gavel, and start the auction, there was inevitably someone who wasnt a seasoned performer who would begin to list all of the things they couldnt do: (1) they could never ask anyone for money, (2) they could never get onstage and ask anyone for anything, or (3) they just didnt have the confidence to ask. Period.
This realization, coupled with the fact that I was nearing my second decade working at Christies, made me feel like it was time for a new challenge, a new adventure, something to push me outside of my comfort zone. I decided to write a book that would address these issues and help other people gain the confidence that I had after so many years onstage.
After a year of writing and editing The Most Powerful Woman in the Room Is You , I published it and spent the next year touring the book around the world. While I originally thought that the greatest gift of writing a book would be simply getting to say that I actually wrote a book, I realized that the greatest gift was that it allowed me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people outside of my immediate circle.
Every city I visited on a book talk, every speech I gave for a group of people, expanded my network and gave me access to new ideas and, more importantly, a new point of view. So many new relationships were formed and built by simply putting myself out there and interacting with people all over the world.
When the global pandemic brought New York City and the rest of the country to a grinding halt, we were in Colorado on a spring break trip with our kids. As we watched from afar as the news from our city became increasingly frightening, we decided to stay in Colorado until it felt safe to return.
As a family that is used to living in the bustling, busy, wall-to-wall people of New York City, the contrast of living in total isolation in the mountains of Colorado was stark. Beautiful as it was to watch the snow falling on the mountains, as a woman who grew up in southern Louisiana, I woke up every day hoping that the snow would stop. Moreover, as someone who was used to being on stage weekly for charity auctions and speaking engagements, I felt like a huge part of my existence had been completely stripped away. Like most people, I felt alone and desperately craved the connectivity that had been such a huge part of my life only months before. In addition, most of the charities I worked with hadnt been able to hold their fundraising galas because of the pandemic. One in particular reached out to tell me that their food bank was circling the city block four times. They needed help.
I did the only thing I could think of doing at that moment.
I asked.
I asked entrepreneurs, celebrities, people I had known my entire life, others I had never met. I asked them to join me on IG Live and give advice about business, life, and mental health. Anything I could think of to help anyone out there who needed a boost of inspiration to keep going during such a dark period. The only thing I asked was that every person who joined me would donate to The River Fund in exchange for the advice. I had saved my ask and the result was an inbox flooded with people who wanted to introduce me to their connections who were looking to help people realize their potential.
In that flooded inbox was an email from a close friend asking if she could introduce me to a college friend, Chris Tuff. She had tuned into my IG Live every day to watch and decided that I should meet another person who felt compelled to turn on the light for other people in this darkest period of our lives.
Chris and I emailed back and forth before deciding to hop on Zoom for an hour. He was in the process of writing a book and wanted to connect. We spent an hour talking about his concept for this book.
I was immediately drawn to Chris. His confidence is evident from the minute you meet him, but it is his warmth that draws you in. There is no question that he understands confidence is the key to life, but he doesnt want to shield that information from anyone seeking more from their own life. Rather he wants to share that information with the world. In this book, Chris has created the handbook for everyone looking to pursue their passion by building great relationships.
Save Your Asks not only shares a proven method for identifying and pursuing passion but also walks you through the steps it takes to naturally build strong connections. As I learned during the pandemic, when everything else has fallen apart, those relationships will keep you afloat, deepen your life, and allow you to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the world around you.
