If you have ever owned a pet you will know that animalscommunicate with their bodies. The arched back and fluffed up tailof a cat clearly says keep away in big letters.

Spoken language in humans is a relatively recent development,being maybe as old as 100,000 years, so how did humans communicateprior to being able to speak?

Humans, just like animals relied on non-verbal communication.The body movements, facial expressions and posture all sent strongmessages and survival relied on being able to determine theintentions of another person by understanding their bodylanguage.

Nowadays non-verbal communication does not tend to mean thedifference between life and death, but it is very useful inunderstanding the true meaning behind words. In todays society,unfortunately, there is a lot of deception and falsehoods andunderstanding the power of body language can help you understandthe truth behind the words.

Body language can vary from the blatant, such as the crossingof arms or legs, to the subtle such as flaring nostrils or a glanceoff in a direction. The subtle forms also include tiny muscletwitches or dilation of pupils and can be hard for all but thetrained observer to notice, though we will introduce you to some ofthese concepts in this book as well as the more obvioussignals.

Understanding body language is going to help you tounderstand what is going on in a mans head. Men are notoriouslybad at verbal communication and sometimes it can be like gettingblood out of a stone to get a man to talk. However, if youunderstand body language then you can work out what is going on inhis head from the messages his body is sending out without him evenrealizing.

The meaning of body language can vary from country to countryas different cultures have different values. For example, in theUSA eye contact shows you are paying attention or confident inyourself but in some African and Asian countries it is considered asign of disrespect! Waving your arms when speaking is common inItalians as they use their arms to emphasize their words yet theJapanese will avoid using their arms as it is considered to beimpolite.

Whilst a lot of body language cues are generic you do need totake into consideration the cultural background of the man you arespeaking to because that will influence their use and even themeaning of their body language!

Body language will really help you get to grips with datingbecause you can understand how a date is going without having toask. If you are on the date sitting at a table and he is leaningtowards you across the table then that shows you he is interestedin you. If he starts to lean back or glance around the room thenyou are losing his attention and need to turn the conversation backto him or something he is passionate about and then he willre-connect with you.

If he is putting his hands behind his head and leaning backthen that usually means he feels superior to you. Likewise, if heputs his hand on your shoulder it is an indication of interest butit also shows he can also be dominant too. If you are sat down andhe remains standing to speak to you then that is a sign that hewants to be in control.

You can see that body language is a big indicator of what isgoing on in his mind and his personality, and best of all, themajority of the signals you will learn cannot be faked which givesyou a big insight in to his mind.

However you can use body language to your advantage and helpyou to understand your man better. For example, if you mirror hismovements (subtly of course) then you can build a rapport with him,which makes it harder for him to be untruthful to you.

If you keep your body open by uncrossing your arms and legsand having your body turned towards him, this will encourage morehonesty and truthfulness from him. If you doubt he is beingtruthful then do not point out that you are fairly sure he islying. You could, for example, get closer to him and invade hispersonal space and make him feel under scrutiny and then he is morelikely to be truthful.

Body language is a powerful form of communication that whenmastered makes it very easy to understand what is going on in amans head. With this book you will learn to understand this hiddenlanguage and understand the real meaning behind a manscommunication.
