    If these were your first thoughts when you heard about the Paleo diet, you have every right to feel that way.

    There are just too many diets in the world today and it doesnt help that they all contradict one another.

    While diet A says carbs are the enemy , another diet comes along and says its the fats you should cut out of your diet , and then another says No, its just your calories you need to watch .

    For someone who is desperate to lose weight, or improve their health, all of these contradictory dietary advices can be extremely frustrating.

    But what if I told you that the Paleo diet is not necessarily a diet but a return back to the status quo?

    You see, back in the days, our ancestors had very different eating patterns than what we have today and from what we have gathered about them, they were muscular, athletic, agile, and mostly healthy- at least they didnt have cancer, HIV, SARS, and all the other new age diseases.

    But when you look at the average human today, many are overweight or at least constantly struggling to stay in shape, many others are depressed, sleep deprived, unhappy or unhealthy.

    So what the hell happened?

    Well, agriculture did.

    Our ancestors were hunter-gatherers who ate mostly fruits, vegetables and no processed foods but as soon as agriculture came into the picture, humans started changing the way we eat.

    People learned how to cook so the food was no longer as fresh as it used to be.

    With cooking came food storage, because they sometimes had to store some of the foods they cooked and eventually, the idea of processed foods was born.

    The problem however, is that the human body has not completely evolved to deal with the way we eat today- the human body hasnt quite adjusted to eating so much grains and processed sugar.

    Paleo Guru Robb Wolf explains that human evolution can be compared to a 100-yard football field. The first 99.5 yards of the field represent the length of time that humans spent being hunter gatherers, while the last half yards are how long our dietary choices have been impacted by agricultural evolution.

    Humans have been around for thousands of years, and have always been hunter-gatherers. The concept of agriculture only began a few thousand years ago but our genetics havent changed quite much.

    The human body has not really adjusted to being fed with all the corn, bread, pasta, rice and other grains it is being fed today because we spent thousands of years surviving on seasonal fruits, vegetables, and meat.

    This is why 33% of humans today are obese, while around 66% are overweight.

    Its clear that something is wrong somewhere.

    The proponents of the Paleo diet make us understand that grains consist of carbohydrates that are converted into sugar within the body. The sugar is either converted to glucose which is burned as energy, or stored up as fat if the body doesnt have immediate need for it.

    Grains also contain some components known as gluten and lecithin.
