Foreword
In the two years that I attended Fresno State, I never once imagined that I would become a major league pitcher. With hard work and the coaching of Bob Bennett, dreams became reality for me. I am a firm believer in a good solid delivery that incorporates balance and a consistent release point. These are some of the small but important areas of pitching that are sometimes overlooked.
The art of pitching is broken down into many areas. In this book you will find all of those areas defined and illustrated for you. As you go through this detailed, but easy to understand book, you will find drills and techniques that will aid you to coach or perform better. When learning to pitch, I feel you should learn your craft well enough to be able to teach others. I have found that it helps my pitching to be able to analyze others as well. This book is going to be an excellent teaching tool for the pitcher starting at square one or for the coach and pitcher just looking for a little help.
As I wind down my career in baseball, I find myself looking back and remembering those days at FSU when pitching came together for me. It wasn't easy and nobody said it would be. I definitely have many thank-yous to give out for my career, but nobody deserves more credit for my technique, perseverance and positive outlook in baseball than Coach Bob Bennett. He is the reason his teams and players excel at FSU.

Acknowledgments
Two of my former pitchers, Mark Gardner and Bobby Jones, were very helpful with the formation of this book. They demonstrated the drills and mechanics shown in this book. Both were All-American pitchers in college, and both are in the major leagues.
I was fortunate to have played for two outstanding coaches, Ollie Bidwell and Pete Beiden. Both coaches were outstanding fundamentalists. Their ideas were passed along to me and are the foundation for this book.
Teaching cannot be done without good students. The many pitchers whom I had the privilege of coaching have been a source of enthusiasm and energy during my coaching career. Their willingness to learn and to exchange ideas helped to develop the pitching program discussed in this book.
For all of these coaches and players I owe a debt of gratitude.
