Ruth Cross

Ruth is Course Director in Health Promotion and has oversight of the suite of health promotion and public health courses delivered at Leeds Beckett University. She has wide experience in health, health care services and health promotion both in the UK and in sub-Saharan Africa. Ruth is Course Leader for the MSc Public Health Promotion in Ghana. She contributes to all the programmes at Leeds Beckett University facilitating learning about the foundations of health promotion, health communication, health behaviour and research methods. Ruth has co-authored several books and book chapters on health promotion, health communication, global health and health studies.

Sally Foster

Sally is a former Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University. As well as teaching for many years on the Masters courses in Health Promotion in the UK and several countries in Africa, she was also more recently Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Public Health, which is a top-up degree, delivered in Zambia. A sociologist by background, Sallys interests are in womens health, community involvement in health, and the politics of health and development, particularly in relation to Africa, where she has lived and worked. Sally has also done research on solid waste management in Africa, and is currently researching the benefits of allotments and urban food growing for health and wellbeing.

Ivy ONeil

Ivy is former Principal Lecturer and Professional Lead for the Health Promotion team at Leeds Beckett University. Her background is in nursing. She is also a Registered General Nurse, a Registered Midwife, a Registered Sick Childrens Nurse and a Registered Health Visitor. Ivys MSc was in research, undertaking primary research into the health needs of ethnic minority families. She was the Course Leader for the MSc Public Health Health Promotion course and led the development of the distance learning version of the course. Ivys research interests are in health needs assessment, promoting child, young person and family health. Ivy also has an interest in the education of public health practitioners and public health workforce development. She is the co-author with Dr Ruth Cross and Dr Sam Davis of the book Health Communication Theoretical and Critical Perspectives (2017) and the author of Digital Health Promotion A Critical Introduction (2019).

Simon Rowlands

Simon is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Health Promotion at Leeds Beckett University and teaches a wide range of subjects from Foundations in Health Promotion and Public Health to Policy and Research Methods. Simon has 15 years of experience as a practicing Health Promotion Specialist working for the National Health Service in Bradford, West Yorkshire, as well as various non-governmental organization secondments primarily in the Balkans. Simons work is largely focused around physical activity and nutrition. His PhD explored the role of gender, and masculinities in particular, in how men manage their bodies.

Louise Warwick-Booth

Louise is a Reader in Health Promotion and a sociologist with specific interests in health policy, social inequalities and vulnerable populations. She teaches modules on sociology, health policy, global health and research methods. Her current research interests focus upon the evaluation of interventions to improve the health of marginalized groups, particularly at-risk women.

James Woodall

James is a Reader and Head of Subject in Health Promotion at Leeds Beckett University. James teaches both postgraduate and undergraduate students and has contributed to several textbooks to support student and practitioner understanding. James is an active researcher in the field of public health and health promotion. His research interests are diverse, but with a common theme of understanding how to reduce health inequalities and improve individual and community health. James has particular interest in prison and offender health and has published several articles in this area.
