It has often been said that the mind controls the body.

Better than 95% of the activities within your body are caused by your mind.

It is well known that if you suffer from mental stress your body can react quite violently by becoming ill. Most of us have experienced this at some time during our lives.

The mind has an enormous control over the wellbeing of your physical body and if you go through a period of negative, dangerous and confusing though t patterns you are likely to find your body starting to play up.

The sicker you get the more depressed you become and this can become quite a vicious cycle.

The mind also has considerable control over your weight.

Unless you have a medical condition that causes you to gain weight then any weight problems you have will be caused by what you eat.

Seriously overweight individuals tend to eat high calorie and fatty foods. They hoe into the butter and white bread and eat desserts full of calories.

In this small book I will describe initially how excess calories affect your body and how to overcome this then I will explain unusual mind techniques which you can easily apply to lose weight steadily.

Some years ago I spent a week at a health resort in Australia called Camp Eden. This is situated on the New South Wales and Queensland borders. I learnt a massive amount about calorie intake there and since then I have always been conscious of what I eat.

As I recall we were told that an ordinary slice of white bread contained around 100 calories and if we added ordinary butter (or margarine) then this added another 50 calories. As the average human body only needs 2000-2500 calories intake per day then 4 slices of white bread and butter containing 6 00 calories was over a quarter of our necessary daily intake.

It was suggested we eat brown bread which has around 70 calories then use fat reduced butter (or margarine) which added only another 30 calories. The result was that our slice of bread and butter contained only 100 calories overall which was one third less. Now if we apply this principal to everything we eat we can reduce our calorie intake by 30% per day without feeling hungry.

The Camp Eden staff pointed out that if we had a decent cereal and fruit breakfast then something light for lunch such as boiled chicken and salad we could then have a decent dinner at night but we were to avoid food prepared in oil, fat or salt. They suggested that if we became hungry during the day then we could nibble on low calorie biscuits dipped in an Avocado/cottage cheese mix. This kept the hunger pains away and the overall result was that as we cleaned our body out we would become more ene rgetic and tend to burn off extra calories b y moving around more actively .

The trick was to totally avoid fried foods and consume low calorie da iry products such as reduced fat- butter and milk. Most supermarkets sell these reduced fat-reduced and salt -reduced items these days. Basically you are eating the same amount of satisfying food but reducing your calorie intake by 30% or more. As your energy build up you automatically do more natural exercise which burns off more calories. They also recommended that in conjunction with this lower calorie intake we do at least a 30 minute walk each day. Not a slow ambling walk but a steady faster one.

The result being that the body would slowly drop

weight without actually having to go on a diet.

Now some overweight individuals seem to expect to be able to find a magic formula that will cause them to lose a massive amount of weight in a week or so. This will not happen as the chances are you have spent many years slowly gaining weight but if you are prepared to follow the calorie restriction program described above and do a little exercise then you will slowly over time lose the excess weight. This will not happen overnight and may take several weeks before you start to notice a difference. Check yourself regularly on bathroom scales to monitor your progress.

Your previous eating habits were bought about by signals from your stomach going to your mind. With a simple mind program you can effectively interrupt these signals so that your eating habits change and you slowly but steadily shed those extra pounds. As you monitor your weight on your scales and watch it slowly decrease you will become increasingly impressed with yourself and gain confidence in you r ability to control your body .

The real beauty of this program is that you do not have to diet with all the resultant hunger pain s. Most certainly for the first week you might feel the odd hunger pang but you can always nibble as suggested above. However when you buy the biscuits make sure you select low calorie ones. Check all the applicable biscuits on the supermarket shelf and pick the lowest calorie one. Forget about your favourite cream-filled ones....these are full of unhealthy calories. The actual taste of the biscuit doesnt matter so much as you will be covering it with the dip anyway. Avoid buying pre-made dips as these will be rich in calories and fats. You may prefer to select a fruit other than Avocado . It needs to be a fruit that you can mash up with the cottage cheese.

What you are aiming at is to reduce your calorie input by at least 30% without necessarily feeling hungry.

At some point you may feel the urge for a full-on unhealthy meal and as they pointed out a Camp Eden this is alright providing it is only once every week or two. You can treat this as a reward to yourself for achieving a constant weight loss.

The mind plays a significant part in your eating habits and shortly Ill discuss the mental processes that will help you considerably. This coupled with your new low calorie protocol will produce reasonably effective results.....sometimes quite quickly.

It has often been said that a person becomes what they think about all day long and this has been proven to be very true. If you think positive, cheery and wealthy thoughts then your physical life tends to gravitate to this situation. But if you spend a lot of your time thinking negative unhealthy thoughts then you pay the price by becoming perpetually gloomy and unhappy.

Based upon the above knowledge there is a neat little mental trick you can use to program your subconscious mind to help you lose weight.

Here is how it works:

You need a current photo of yourself in your overweight condition. You will need a digital version of this so you can modify it on your computer. If you havent got a current photo then get a friend to take a picture of you standing preferably against a blank white wall.

Then download the picture into your computer and using one of your graphic art programs reduce the width of the photo while retaining the original height. This compresses your pic sideways so you look much thinner. If you have a standard Windows computer you can use the inbuilt PAINT program to achieve this. Open your pic in the PAINT program and click on the RESIZE button then adjust the horizontal percentage to make the picture narrower.

Fiddle around with it until you end up with a much thinner you. When you have a pic of yourself that represents what you want to end up looking like print out a few copies.

Now this is where your subconscious mind reprogramming will take effect:

Place these photos in prominent positions around your house where you can see them frequently. Also you might consider using this modified photo as a screen background on your computer. What happens here is that you are constantly seeing a visual representation of the new you ! This slowly impinges itself on your subconscious mind which will start to give your body instructions to lose weight. Remember...... you become what you think about all day long.
