I have considered for years that it would be unwise to teach the delta technique because of experiences I personally had with it when I was experimenting with the 1-2 CPS (cycles per second) range. This range caused me a certain amount of grief which I will explain later on. Since those days I use theta virtually on a daily basis and usually work in the 3- cps range but occasionally I can feel myself drop lower into delta. I get the impression that I drop to the 2 3 cps range and this has caused me no ill effect. In fact it is a totally magical state as I am, in effect, my own hypnotist! It definitely feels better than the higher theta states of 5-6 cps.

With this experience behind me I introduced a basic delta course to selected students about 12 months ago and none of them have reported any ill effects.

So I know believe it is safe to introduce this course to all those who are experienced in theta.

Of course there is no point in buying this delta course if you cannot handle theta yet.

Firstly you need to be able to drop to alpha..... then to theta..... then you are ready for delta.

I repeat it is a waste of time trying to learn to drop directly to delta without learning alpha and theta first as the delta state simply will not happen unless you have trained yourself for mind-awake body-asleep in the higher brain frequencies.

MIND AWAKE BODY ASLEEP

Jose Silva discovered that it was possible to have the brain operate in both the wide awake beta state AND the lower alpha state simultaneously. That is the brain was operating in two states so that you are always aware of what is going on around you.... while enjoying the benefits of the relaxed alpha state.

I have prepared a brain frequency chart below so you can easily visualize the mind state relationships

We are normally ticking along somewhere between 14 and 30 cps in beta but if we become super-excited we can reach a beta of 40 cps. This of course is the exact opposite of a relaxed state both physically and mentally.

The mechanical process for learning delta is similar to the method of learning alpha and theta. But there are a few differences.

You will need to make yourself a simple cassette tape with a delta message on it. You use this when you relaxed and lying in a prone position. This prone position is very important in delta as you will be in an advanced sleep state and you wont want your head falling onto your chest and restricting your breathing.

You can make this tape initially on your computer and transfer it to a cheap cassette player afterwards if you wish. Quality of sound is not important. Only the message.

When you are reclining and have reached your theta state have your hand ready on the play button so you can trigger off the delta message.

I initially had a small cheap cassette player lying on the bed beside me set in the play mode.... but set on pause . The reason for thiswas that the pause button required far less finger strength to release than the play button which took quite a bit of finger pressure to operate as it had to mechanically move the tape down onto the playback head.

The pause button only had to release the mechanism and required minimal finger energy.

When you are down in theta you dont need the distraction of having to solidly press a play button as this can suddenly jump you up to a higher brain wave then you have to basically start over again!

I got caught out on this consistently until I figured that the pause button would solve the problem.

After you make the tape and are ready to use it play it at a very soft level but make sure you can hear the words clearly.

I actually place it under the edge of my pillow and play it just loud enough to hear through the pillow. I use a fairly thin pillow for this exercise. This way my wife doesnt get disturbed.

An important point

It is very difficult to attain mind-awake-body-asleep in the theta range but I have developed a simple visual method for staying alert.

It takes a small amount of effort to learn but seems to work for most people. It involves something I call the B symbol and this is what I taught in my Teach Yourself Theta book.

Details of this are as follows

MIND-AWAKE-BODY-ASLEEP

Here is the method for retaining conscious awareness while you enter this magical state of theta.

Picture a movie screen (or a computer screen) in front of you. If you have difficulty visualizing try this .. gaze at your computer screen.then close your eyes and see if you can recapture a picture of the screen in your minds eye. Practice doing this a number of times. Then open your paint program and draw the letter B in the centre of the screen.

Attach a long tail to it so it looks like the Greek B.

Now this is what you focus on. What we want is for this picture of a B to appear in the center of your mental movie screen. This B represents BETA. This is what is telling your mind to retain its beta awareness while you are in theta. For those who dont visualize easily try practicing until you achieve some sort of mental picture.

While you are listening to the tape hold this mental picture in your mind.

It actually took me around two weeks to get clear mental screen pictures as I was not a natural at it. I still practice occasionally using oranges, lemons and apples. Then I visualize cutting them in half and tasting them. These days the taste is quite real!

Here is the delta message you record:

(Speak very slowly with plenty of gaps between sentences)

. Now that I am fully relaxed in theta I desire to drop further down into delta. As I count slowly from ten down to one I will enter the delta state. I will retain the B symbol on my mental screen while I am listening to this tape. I will retain conscious awareness while I am dropping down to delta.

REPEAT THE ABOVE PASSAGE AT LEAST 6 TIMES ON YOUR CASSETTE.

(Then proceed in a very slow voice with the theta message as follows-)

TEN.I am focusing on my beta sign on my mental screen and letting my body relax more and more.. I am focusing on my beta sign on my mental screen and letting my body relax more and more and can feel myself dropping lower in theta..

NINE..I can feel every muscle in my body letting go.I can feel a sense of wellbeing coming over me. I can feel every muscle in my body letting go.I can feel a sense of wellbeing coming over me.

EIGHT I am focusing on my beta sign on my mental screen and letting my body relax more and more..my breathing is slowing down and I can feel the tenseness leaving my muscles..

SEVENMy body is starting to feel like its floating...I can feel a sense of serenity and peacefulness.nothing disturbs menothing worries meas I approach the delta state.

.SIX. I am focusing on my beta sign on my mental screen.every muscle in my body is now totally relaxed.I am listening only to my voice and can feel my body becoming totally peaceful.
