"What was this idea, so revolutionary that Dr. Stone was amazed whenever a physician became interested in his work? What was so difficult about what he taught that he fully expected not to be understood?
"He taught what is today being called the new paradigm, the 'New Physics'. He taught that the human flesh we identify as our own bodies is not, in fact, a solid thing, but a system of coordinated energy patterns that are generally in movement. It was his discovery that sickness results from specific inhibitions in the flow of this energy. And he spent fifty or more years developing manual methods of healing human malfunctioning, by learning to restore natural movement of the energy fields....He was a divinely inspired healer and he was a pioneer physician." ---from the Foreword by Robert K. Hall, M.D.
"HEALTH BUILDING presents the self-help aspects of Polarity Therapythe philosophy, nutritional recommendations, and particularly the polarity yoga stretching postures which balance and promote energy flow....Dr. Stone was an educator as well as a therapist. He urged the use of diet, exercise, and spiritual principles in finding and maintaining a sense of well-being."

Publishers Note
CRCS Publications is proud to publish the first popular trade editions of Dr. Randolph Stones work. This volume comprises all of Dr. Stones writings that were specifically intended for his patients and which therefore are written in an informal, conversational style. Originally published as small self-help manuals to encourage people to take an energetic part in rebuilding their health, the material in this volume is an integral part of Dr. Stones approach to health. In his practice, he used the dietary, exercise, and mental principles described herein along with Polarity Therapy energy balancing treatments and sometimes other physical therapies.
For Dr. Stone, health is a positive state of well-being, not just the absence of obvious disease. It is a state of being that one can build through effort, discipline, responsibility, and persistence. And that state of well-being is achieved by the stimulation and balancing of the life energies which flow in definite patterns and finer energy fields throughout the human constitution. Seeing and working with the human being as a complex coordination of subtle energy fields was the foundation of all Dr. Stones work and the secret of his remarkable successes with many hopeless cases. (As he got older, he specialized more and more in difficult cases whom other doctors had failed to help.)
In addition to diet and exercises, Dr. Stone discusses the spiritual and psychological dimensions of life and their relation to health and wholeness. Those dimensions of being are also an integral part of his therapeutic perspective and cannot be separated from the more commonplace subjects of diet and exercise. For Dr. Stone, all of the dimensions of a human being are important, and the striking simplicity and clarity of his wholistic vision of life was a rare gift that powerfully affected many people who came into contact with him.
For the modern mind, the unpretentious simplicity of some of his views might be difficult to accept, so accustomed are we to detailed analysis and endless complexity. It has to be acknowledged that Dr. Stone spoke and wrote in an inspired, The reader encountering Dr. Stone for the first time must relax his or her critical mind somewhat and be truly open to the flow of thought and vision of life that Dr. Stone is expressing in order to receive the maximum benefit and understanding from his writings. Dr. Stone was not interested in impressing academics but in communicating to the masses a powerful, holistic truth that he felt was being almost completely neglected in the modern world and in the healing arts.
It would be accurate to say that Dr. Stones all-at-once-ness quality of perception is reflected in his writing style. Therefore, we did not want to edit it too much to make it sound like a dry academic treatise or a journalistic report. The proof of his ideas is in the results, and many individuals who have followed his health principles have benefited greatly and have found them powerfully effective. As Dr. Stone writes,
If you will follow the entire routine strictly, without consulting your own opinions, habits and appetites, you will notice improvements that will astonish you. If you want to follow your own inclinations or habits, why consult a doctor? (page 92)
The unity of Dr. Stones life-vision is nowhere more evident than in his wide-ranging references to many different religious, occult, spiritual, therapeutic, and cultural images and terms. This was quite natural for him since he was a life-long truth-seeker whose diversity of interests knew no bounds. He draws on many Western and Eastern traditions to present a remarkably integrated view of human functioning, and he found that many ancient systems (including Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, Astrology, and the Kaballah) described the fields of energy which sustain the human body. Those interested in pursuing his research in more detail than this book provides should read his collected works on the energy-balancing art and science that he called Polarity Therapy.
Finally, it must be pointed out that this book does not attempt to diagnose or treat specific illnesses. It is advisable to seek professional advice or to consult your physician in every case where you are in doubt about your health, particularly when you have persistent pain or any other continuous symptom.
