Crock Pot Whole Chicken
Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons salt ( per recipe reviews, 2 tsp is better)
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large roasting chicken ( with pop-up timer if possible)
- 1 cup chopped onion (optional)
Directions
You will need to choose a small bowl in which to combine all of your spices.
Now clean the chicken you are going to use by removing any giblets and began rubbing your spice mixture onto the bird.
Take an onion and chop into fine pieces and place in the bottom of your crock pot before laying your chicken on top. Keep in mind no liquid is needed because this chicken will produce its own juices.
You will want to cook this on low for about 4-8 hours depending on the type of cooker you are using.
Variations
If you want to prepare this meal the night before you are going to serve it, you can place this chicken with its spices in a resealable plastic bag and place in your freezer. When ready to cook, just open and place inside your crockpot.
Another way is to wrap the chicken up in aluminum foil filled with cubed potatoes seasoned with salt, pepper and butter. And some might want to used a little wine in the seasoning.
Crock Pot Garlic Brown Sugar Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 large chicken, cut into serving pieces
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2/3 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup Sprite or 1/4 cup 7-Up soda
- 2 -3 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon pepper ( regular black or cayenne)
Directions
You will want to start off by placing your chicken inside your crockpot and mixing all of your remaining ingredients over your chicken.
Simply cook on low for 6-8 hours depending on the cooker you are using.
When its ready to serve, just put over your favorite rice or noodles.
Variations
You can thicken the juices after cooking with a little cornstarch.
Also try substituting plump skinless boneless breasts for the recipe's stated chicken pieces (which would be with both skin and bone) and this will allow you to cut the cooking time down to 4 hours at Low.
