We have all heard the saying Food is fuel. Not all foods are equal as fuels. It takes a little more thought and exploration to work which fuels are best. You have to make sure you put petrol in your petrol car rather than diesel, and it is the same for your body.

One of the biggest questions I received, which I believe it is the hardest one for us is that some people arent losing weight on keto, and I understand because I have been there. It can be extremely frustrating when you have an abundance of weight you need to lose and you are not losing it.

I chose the keto lifestyle because I was desperate to get that excess weight off my body. I started at 240 pounds, and it was depressing and debilitating to not be able to move, and being tired most of the time, I really needed to get that weight off. Therefore, I understand perfectly when you say I need to lose weight, I understand that urgency and I want to help you do that but you also need to learn how to do it properly. So this book is not about the 7 tips to weight lose, it doesnt work that way, I have been there.

The ketogenic way of eating is not only a diet but a lifestyle. When I started, all I thought about was to lose weight, and if that is all you are concerned about, you are not thinking about the longevity of your life and your body, that is fine. Dont expect amazing results if all you want to do is to dabble in it. You must commit to this diet; I told myself that I will commit to doing whatever I need to do for a good solid two months. If after that time I havent lost weight or I dont feel like it is the right thing to do, I will move on because I was tired of wasting too much time and energy and starting over all the time.

Maybe you haven't quite committed to yourself, that's step one. If you have not committed to doing this life cycle and really giving yourself the chance to experience it, then you technically are not in keto yet. You need to get that squared away. The good news is that every piece of information you need to start the ketogenic diet and remain in ketosis is in this book. Come with me as we take this adventure together.

K etosis is a normal metabolic process. When your body doesnt have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fat; which result in a build-up of acids called ketones within the body. Ketones, also known as Ketones bodies, are byproducts of the body breaking down fat for energy that occurs when carbohydrate intake is low.

Some people encourage ketosis by following a diet called the Ketogenic or low-carb diet. The primarily purpose of the diet is to try and burn unwanted fat by forcing the body to rely on fat for energy, rather than carbohydrates. Most people engage glucose as their only source of energy which often leads to fat-related weight gains and other health complications in the long run.

Ketosis is commonly observed in patients with diabetes, as the process can occur if the body does not have enough insulin or is not using insulin correctly. The problems associated with extreme levels of ketosis are more likely to develop in patients with type 1 diabetes compared with type 2 diabetes patients.

The end product of fat burning is a profound energy level that is greater than what is derived from burning carbohydrate as a primary source of energy. From the onset, the human physiology was designed to exist on ketones. For several thousands of years, this was how we lived before the introduction of high carb meals and sugar to our staples.

When you avoid consuming glucose or sugar for 10-12 hours, there is a production of ketones in the body, which break down body fats, and this process is known as beta-oxidation. This process can be reversed with the re-introduction of high carbs meals. Major and minor ketones in the blood or urine can be tested using strips or glucometer, which you can purchased from the drug stores.

Glucose can either be used to fuel the body or be stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen. If you dont have enough glucose to meet energy demands, your body will adopt another alternative strategy in order to meet those needs. Specifically, the body will start breaking down fat stores to provide glucose from triglycerides, and ketones are a by-product of this process.
