FOREWORD
THIS BOOK HAS COME FORTH at a defining moment in history. No one would disagree that at this particular juncture, we as a culture are struggling in our communication with one another. This is significant. Without the ability to communicate, particularly during high-stakes interactions, our relationships suffer and our businesses or careers can derail.
In my work over the years, first with FranklinCovey and now in my own company SMCOV, I have learned that self-discovery and self-management are two critical elements to a fulfilling careerand to a successful life. Its clear to me that we, as leaders, parents, friends, and members of the community, must strive to model the behavior we wish to see in others. The old do as I say, not as I do mentality is wearing thin. Its time to step up to the plate and become more proactive in finding ways to build upon our capacity to communicate with more composure and finesse, and empower others to do the same.
Why did you pick up this book? Maybe you just finished a disjointed conversation with a family member or you had a heated discussion with a co-worker. You might be feeling frustrated and unable to discern why these unpleasant interactions keep coming to the forefront, and you are unable to pinpoint the cause. Does it feel like you are continually trying to keep up with the demands of life while attempting to preserve equanimity with your employees, superiors or spouse? Are you searching for a way to enhance employee loyalty and increase productivity?
You may find some answers here.
Simultaneously practical and inspirational, the Meaningful Alignment program was created by management consulting firm Steinbrecher and Associates, Inc. to address these thorny issues effectively. Packed with real-world advice and leadership wisdom, their book dives deep beneath the surface of everyday problems. It offers help in an easy-to-read story format that effortlessly teaches the reader how to handle the toughest conversations. These are not just cookie-cutter methods to improve communication. Meaningful Alignment is a holistic system that gets to the very core of why we are often suffering in our relationships and interactions with one another and offers help in finding a better way.
