Introduction
As the name implies, overthinking simply means thinking too much. In reality, when you spend more time thinking instead of acting and engaging in other activities, then youre overthinking. You can find yourself analyzing, commenting, and repeating the same thoughts over and over again, rather than taking action, then youre overthinking. Such bad habits can hinder your progress, leaving one unproductive.
Each individual will experience overthinking differently and no two people overthink the same way. But generally, all those who overthink will agree that the quality of their life has been affected by their inability to control their negative thoughts and emotions. Such habits make it very difficult for the majority of the individuals to socialize, be productive at work, or enjoy hobbies due to the enormous amount of time and energy their mind consumes on a specific line of thoughts. Such uncontrolled emotions can be very harmful to the individuals mental health.
Overthinking makes it more difficult to make new friends and to keep friends; you will find it difficult to converse with them because you're overly concerned about what to say or what to do to keep the conversation going. Some individuals who are affected by this disorder may find it challenging to participate in general conversations or to interact with others even in a normal environment. In addition, some may have trouble keeping an appointment or going to the store. This kind of thinking wastes time and drains your energy, thereby preventing you from taking action or exploring new ideas. It also hinders progress in life. This can be compared to attaching a chain that is connected to a pole around your waist and then running in circles you will be busy but not productive. Overthinking will disable your capacity to make sound decisions.
Under such circumstances, youre more likely to be worried, anxious, and devoid of inner peace of mind. However, when you stop overthinking, you will become more productive, happy, and will enjoy more peace.

What is Overthinking?
What exactly overthinking is? Experts overview overthinking syndrome as spending much of your time thinking of anything and something which causes stress, fear, restlessness, concern, dread, unease, and many others. This mental condition is not just about too much thinking of something, but also about spending more thoughts, which affects the capability of the person to work and finish the daily tasks.
If you worry about your friends, your job, your family, your boyfriend, and girlfriend, your life and anything else; You believe that you do not have overthinking condition; No matter what you are thinking about, perhaps concerns you for a moment, then a short span of time, you continue with other parts of your life. Yes, you return wondering every so often. However, you do not continuously wonder, and you do not find it getting in the way with the rest of your life. With this kind of mental condition, however, the troubled is all that you can think of. Even if you may not be troubled on the same thing regularly and repeatedly, you always worried about something.
To know if you are overthinking everything, you may experience one or more of these cases:
- Complexity in following and participating in a discussion.
- Constantly evaluating yourself to those around you as well as how you match up to them
- Giving so much time on worst-case scenarios involving members of the family or yourself
- Reliving previous mistakes and failures time and again, so you are not capable of moving past them
- Worrying too much about your objects and dreams or future tasks until such time that they are not viable to achieve
- Reliving your previous traumatic experience, which includes the loss of parents, or any members of the family, abuse, which leaves you not capable of dealing with it?
- Lack of capability of slowing down the flow of vague thoughts, emotions, and worries
No two individuals will suffer from this kind of mental issue in the same way. But people who do suffer overthinking will find that their daily living and lifestyle is at stake. This is due to their lack of capability of efficiently and successfully controlling negative thoughts as well as emotion. Thus, they find it hard to hang out and socialize. They also find it hard to enjoy their sidelines and hobbies. They are not helpful and not creative at work. All these happen since their mind spends an inconsistent amount of energy and time on particular lines of thoughts. There is a feeling that they do not have complete power over their emotions or minds that can be extremely destructive to mental wellbeing.
Making friends, meeting up with someone as well as keeping friends is hard with this mental condition as you resist interacting with them. You will experience difficulty in talking to the people that surrounds you. This happens because you are too much trouble with the things you do or say. You are also too much concerned about what will happen or how you will do it. If you, your friends or any member of the family experience, this mental disorder might struggle to make general conversation with others. It will also be hard to interrelate in a typical setting. You might find it so hard to go out to the department store or to your appointment, which affects your whole life in general.
