Managing a project with Microsoft Project 2010: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Managing a project with Microsoft Project 2010" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This eBook serves both as a support for those who attend an advanced Microsoft Project 2010 course and for all those who decide to analyze the dynamics of managing a project by using Microsoft Project 2010 in an advanced mode. One of the propulsion engines of our literary work was to provide the readers with a userfriendly product, usable on any digital support (smarthphone, tablet, PC...), instead of a classic complex and lengthy Microsoft Project manual. This product is based on our original Recall Map technique, a mix of graphic/intuitive/evocative images and Microsoft Project screen shots, useful for a smart and lasting memorization of the essential concepts of the software itself.

Introduction

In many Organizations (public or private, profit and non-profit) the culture of Project Management is spreading with increasing conviction. Relevant change and innovation management projects are assigned to professionals who should theoretically possess adequate knowledge, skills and competencies in project management in order to enhance the Organization "sense of confidence" and its chance of success.

Between theoretical and practical aspect, sometimes, there are huge differences! These gaps are even more tangible when you approach the use of Project Management Information Systems(PMIS).

The choice of a Project Management application platform is the result of a series of evaluations that each Organization should perform beforehand:

on which cultural/environmental factors and organizational process assets does our Organization work?

does our Organization refer to appropriate industry standards and infrastructure?

what is the capacity of our Organization in terms of human resources?

what does our Organization expect from a Project Management information software (just a scheduling software or is it necessary to acquire a software for configuration management, ) ?

Starting from these considerations, the Authors decided to examine in depth the technical/methodological skills necessary to manage a project with success by using Microsoft Project (version 2010), one of the best-known software applications in the field.

This study was conceived by using one of the most powerful tools that has ever been created to support the processing/elaboration of human thought and memorization, that is mind maps but with a personal touch that gave birth to a new tool called Recall Map.

And here's to you, dear readers, the Recall Map for managing a project by using Microsoft Project 2010!

Unless readers did not already attend a theoretical Project Management course or apply Project Management processes/tools/techniques, following the dissertation flow could be demanding; thus the Authors believe that, in order to better understand the features of Microsoft Project, it is advisable to possess at least a basic Project Management knowledge

Microsoft Project 2010 (Standard or Professional version) is one of the most complete Project Management information systems, used to support project planning and control.

Most of those who approach to the use of this tool bump into the software features which are not entirely intuitive and immediate; therefore, according to our experience, a very important step for the user is to understand the software philosophy that is being used, avoiding little added value operations and concentrating instead on learning at least the Project Management basic tools.

And here our maps for managing a project by using Microsoft Project 2010 come into play. They provide a new and immediate key to learn and memorize otherwise heterogeneous and complex procedures and now, without further hesitation, here are our Recall Map!

What is a Recall Map A map is a simplified depiction of the space which - photo 5

What is a Recall Map

A map is a simplified depiction of the space, which highlights relations among components (objects, regions) of that space. A map is usually a geometrically accurate two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional space, such as a geographical map; more generally, maps can be used to portray any local property of the world or part of it, or any other space, even mind space or conceptual space. Therefore a map can be a tool to "draw our thoughts, "organize" our ideas, rationalizing them and thus making their recollection easier and immediate, in a concise word a Recall Map.

Recall Map is an innovative tool that, by the use of images, representations and logical connections, tries to bring out our lost eidetic memory, typical of childhood and preadolescence, which is different from the photographic and visual memory, since it conjure,or recall if you prefer, a mental image/concept immediately after the visual display of an object.

Therefore, here is the "experiment" that we would like to propose you, an extended exposure to forms and figures evocative of concepts/methods/procedures, that, by exploiting the innate mechanisms of your mind, will be rubbed in your mind with lasting benefits for your study or business.

So, get into the thick of it and may the recall be with you as long as possible!
