Acerca de la Autora

Gail Brenner habla ingls desde 1951, cuando dijo su primera oracin, Beb, dice adis, adis. A partir de ese momento mejor rpidamente, y a los 6 aos, ya enseaba su primera clase de ingls a un atento pblico formado por muecas.

Tiempo despus, cuando estuvo frente a un grupo real (e infinitamente ms activo) de estudiantes, supo que haba encontrado su vocacin. Durante los ltimos 15 aos, Gail ha enseado ingls como segundo idioma (ESL), ha preparado estudiantes para la prueba TOEFL, ha enseado pronunciacin, redaccin acadmica y una cantidad de cursos ms a gente maravillosa de todas partes del mundo. Actualmente da clases en su alma mater, La Universidad de California en Santa Cruz (UCSC) en donde obtuvo la licenciatura en literatura inglesa y docencia.

Cada ao, el nmero de angloparlantes aumenta a pasos agigantados. Actualmente, una de cada seis personas habla ingls, y el ingls es el idioma ms hablado en todo el mundo por personas cuyo origen no es un pas de habla inglesa.

Ms an, el ingls se usa en la mayora de las llamadas internacionales, correspondencia, correos electrnicos, radiocomunicaciones, textos de computacin y comunicaciones de control de trfico areo. Y es, por lo general, el idioma comn utilizado en situaciones de negocios y educacin. Por eso, sin un conocimiento bsico del ingls, puede quedarse, diramos, sin habla.
