1. Sams full name is Samuel Frederick Smith.
2. He was born on the 19 th of May 1992.
3. This makes him a Taurus. Typically, people born under this sign are said to be determined, showing a cool and calm exterior - but are often difficult to get properly close to.
4. Sams mother is called Kate and his father Frederick.
5. He was born in London and later grew up in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, attending St Marys Catholic school in a town called Bishops Stortford.
6. A number of Sams teenage years were spent studying Jazz; he received private tuition as a singer/songwriter from the highly-respected jazz musician Joanna Eden as well as performing in a number of jazz ensembles.
7. Even when growing up, Sam was a musical prodigy; he was a member of both his schools musical theatre group and the Cantate Youth Choir, one of the UKs most successful such organisations.
8. Sam grew up knowing he wanted to be in the entertainment industry, and outside of his normal education also attended Youth Music Theatre UK.
9. In 2012 people begun to be aware of Sam when he featured on Latch , Disclosures breakthrough single.
10. Since then he has matured into a highly-respected singer/songwriter who (at the time of writing) has been nominated for no less than six Grammy awards.

Music

1. Sams chart debut was made in 2012 when the Disclosure single Latch reached number 11 in the UK and 10 in the US Charts.
2. A year later and Sam was sitting on top of the British charts, singing on the Naughty Boy song La La La .
3. Sam released his own debut song Lay Me Down in 2013 without any real fanfare; it only reached a shockingly low number 46.
4. It didnt take long for sales to catch up to his growing reputation however; in 2014 he released Money On My Mind , which reached number one in the UK.
5. This was a feat that he repeated with his next release, Stay With Me - a song which also made waves across the Atlantic, charting at a very respectable number five on the US Billboard Hot 100.
6. Sam released album In The Lonely Hour in May 2014 and it sold more than a million copies in both the UK and US. It hit the top spot on the British charts, and the number two spot in America.
7. He has also released a number of EPs in America which have been popular with fans, although havent sold in the numbers that his singles or album have.
8. Although it didnt have a great deal of commercial success, Sams version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas did just manage to chart around the festive season at the end of 2014.
9. If youre looking for a real treat, hunt down Sams amazing stripped-down performance of one of his idol Whitney Houstons songs How Will I Know - many people say it sends shivers right down their spine, and it was first used in an episode of US medical drama Greys Anatomy.
10. Another fantastic live performance was for Radio 1s Live Lounge, when he sang an amazing cover of Bruno Mars When I Was Your Man.

General Facts

1. Not long after Sams debut release, his flat was burgled - how awful!
2. Sam considers himself a feminist.
3. As a young child, Sam had quite a privileged upbringing; his family even had a swimming pool - something very rare in England!
4. Like many other people who are highly skilled in a particular art, Sam suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder.
5. As a teenager, Sam was overweight - but his dad became something akin to a fitness instructor to get him back into shape.
6. Modern Family is one of Sams favourite things to watch on TV.
7. Although Sam had representation from a young age - just thirteen years old - he went through an incredible six different managers before making it big (with the seventh, Elvin Smith); at one point he even gave himself a year to make it or he would quit trying.
