- Marilyn Manson is the stage name of Brian Hugh Warner.
- He was born in the town of Canton, Ohio.
- He was born on the 5 th of January 1969.
- His father is called Hugh...
- ...and his mother is called Barbara.
- He is an only child.
- Marilyn is 6 feet 1 inch tall.
- He is of German and Polish descent.
- Growing up he attended an Episcopal church - a denomination of which his mother was a supporter.
- After graduating from GlenOak High School, he attended college where he studied Journalism.
General Facts - Part 1
- The name Marilyn Manson was formed using the first name belonging to model Marilyn Monroe and the surname of infamous murderer Charles Manson.
- In his spare time, Marilyn likes to relax by painting. You can see some of his work at his official website.
- He has shown his work in exhibitions - the first was called The Golden Age of Grotesque - however critics dismissed it as not to be taken seriously in a fine-art context and the value being in the celebrity connection rather than the artistic skill.
- Despite the less-than-warm reception from critics however, people who have bought his artwork include Jack Osbourne and Nicolas Cage.
- Amongst many other instruments, Manson can play the pan flute.
- One of Marilyns favourite films is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ; he has even recorded a version of the boat-ride song, called Dope Hat .
- Manson set up a vanity record label called Posthuman Records.
- He has a rare heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
- Marilyn is a fan of Tim Burtons classic film The Nightmare Before Christmas , and contributed a cover version of This is Halloween for the fantastic album Nightmare Revisited.
- Manson has had roles in a number of films, with the first being David Lynchs 1997 flick Lost Highway.
Family & Relationships
- Marilyn first began his stint of proposals with Rose McGowan who even featured in his music video for Coma White . The relationship ended after three and a half years due to lifestyle differences.
- Marilyn and Dita Von Teese first connected when he asked her to dance in one of his music videos. Although she was unable to do so, the two remained in contact.
- Their relationship then went public when Dita was seen arriving at his 32 nd birthday with a bottle of absinthe. Three years later he popped the question
- The engagement ring was a 7 carat, antique, round-cut diamond.
- The two were married in 2005 during a small ceremony and a few days later they walked down the aisle once again in Ireland.
- Marilyns wedding band was a Dana Schneider designed platinum band with an onyx inlay.
- Manson however was handed divorce papers on his 37 th birthday - what a gift! Dita has since said she wasnt supportive of his partying or an alleged relationship with another girl.
- The following year he was dating Evan Rachel Wood (the girl from Thirteen ) and rumours began floating around that she was perhaps the other girl Dita had referred to - but in 2008 Evan announced the relationship was over.
- After a short period of time apart however, the two reunited in 2009. During a trip to France in 2010 Manson popped the question once again - but the two broke up later that year.

- Marilyn has released his own brand of super-strong (and reportedly hallucinogenic) alcoholic beverage absinthe - it is called Mansinthe!
- Johnny Depp has said that he took inspiration from Manson for his performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory !
- Manson appears in the 2005 video game Area 51 as an alien called Edgar.
- For a short time, Americans could buy an energy drink called Eat Me, Drink Me , inspired by the Marilyn Manson album of the same name.
- In 1998, Manson released an official autobiography called The Long Hard Road Out of Hell - we highly recommend it!
- Manson has sold more than 50 million albums across the world.
- When growing up, Manson wanted to be a journalist if he didnt make it in music.
- He first demonstrated his command of the written word when he made a magazine in school to entertain himself and other children; it was called Stupid .
- When he was studying journalism, Manson actually wrote a number of articles for music magazine th Parallel.
- After the Columbine shooting, Manson demonstrated his journalistic skills by writing an article for Rolling Stone , intelligently discussing violence in American society.
Music Career
- In 1989, Marilyn formed a band called Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids with his friend Scott Putesky.
- Shortly after forming the band, they dropped the and the Spooky Kids from the name.
- The other members of the band also followed Marilyns method of choosing a stage name, with the original line-up including Twiggy Ramirez and Madonna Wayne Gacy.
- After playing a number of gigs, the band were noticed by Trent Reznor, frontman of Nine Inch Nails.
- The bands debut album, Portrait of an American Family , was released on Reznors label Nothing Records.
- With the album release, the band picked up a cult following. Fan numbers were further boosted when Marilyn Manson went on tour with Nine Inch Nails.
- They even won fans whose tastes were previously more mainstream following the release of the Smells Like Children EP - this featured the single Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) which became a regular feature on the MTV playlist.
