- Ed was born on the 17 th of February, 1991.
- This makes him an Aquarius.
- His full name is Edward Christopher Sheeran.
- Ed was born in Halifax in the north of England...
- ...but actually grew up in Framlingham in the very south of the country!
- He attended Thomas Mills High School.
- When Ed was sixteen and with his heart set on a musical career, he moved to London to seek his fortune.
- He is 171cm tall - thats around 5 foot 7.

General Facts - Part 1
- Ed is respected by artists from all walks of life and in all styles of music, and many have asked him to write songs for them.
- Legends such as Elton John have commented on just how good a musician Ed is - at Eltons request they even duetted together at the Grammy awards!
- In support of Eltons AIDS charity Love Is In My Blood Ed got a personal trainer, got himself into shape and then stripped down for a nude photoshoot!
- He was one of the acts who played at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.
- Ed submitted a song for inclusion on the soundtrack of blockbuster film The Hunger Games , however - amazingly - it was rejected.
- According to his website, Ed officially supports two charities - Crisis and Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice .
- With so many egos floating around in the music industry, it is fantastic to come across someone as humble and down-to-earth as Ed. When he was talking about his single The A Team , he said he didnt even think it would be played on the radio, let alone nominated for a Grammy!
- More proof of Eds incredible nature comes from this quote: Ive always said that I wanna be known as the nicest and hardest working guy in the industry, so if I could be known as that that would be brilliant.
- Eds single Small Bump is in fact a true story about how one of his friends lost a child.
- Ed says that all his songs have colours... this isnt as strange as it may sound - think of the blues... and there is even a real medical condition where people see music as actual colours in their vision. However he has described You Need Me, I Dont Need You as aubergine...!
Eds Music Career
- When he was just thirteen, Ed released his own EP by the name of The Orange Room .
- Ed followed this up with two independent albums he recorded and put out himself; the first was self-titled (and released when he was only fifteen) and the second, the year after, was called Want Some?
- At this point in his career, as well as recording music Ed started to play live shows. They were nothing like the sell-out tours he has conducted in recent years though - he sometimes played to as few as five people!
- The next two years saw more extended plays - 2009s You Need Me and 2010s Let It Out , Loose Change , Songs I Wrote With Amy and Live at the Bedford .
- Ed had gradually been building up a fanbase, and broke into the mainstream with his 2011 EP No 5 Collaboration Project . Even though he still wasnt signed by a record label, this made it to number two on the iTunes chart - winning him even more fans.
- On the back of this success, Ed was signed by Asylum/Atlantic records, and released his first album with a major label in September 2011 - it was called + .
- One of the first things his label managed to do was secure a slot performing on the well-respected live music show Later with Jools Holland - this won Ed an even greater army of fans.
- His debut major label single release, The A Team , was the 8 th biggest selling song of the year.
- Ed has continued his commitment to giving fans a live music experience, and has toured the world - in fact, Taylor Swift actually discovered Ed for herself whilst he was playing a gig in Australia!
- Possibly Eds biggest touring commitment to date has been as an opening act for Taylor Swifts Red tour - Ed based himself in Nashville, and played an incredible 64 dates in six months.
Things Ed Likes
- Ed is very much a cat person - he has a ginger moggy called Bellini.
- He is also a massive fan of Nandos!
- Ed is a lover of all styles of music; when it comes to rappers though, he reckons Eminem is king of the crop. Ed is a pretty accomplished rapper himself by the way!
- He is a massive fan of Game of Thrones , and has even discussed what he would do with the plot for future shows!
- Musically, Ed is influenced by greats such as Van Morrison and the Beatles, however he says Damien Rice is the artist he looks up to the most.
- Ed has said that Give Me Love is his favourite song to perform.
- Although he has been known to party, Ed does also love nights in with his friends watching TV and eating Doritos.
- Eds favourite Harry Potter character is Luna Lovegood... because he reckons she is always high, but JK Rowling doesnt explicitly say so!
- He has said that his favourite places to tour are Australia and New Zealand - because the scenery is beautiful and people are so laid back there.
- As far as live venues go, if youre in London, Ed recommends visiting a venue in Ballam called The Bedford, known for acoustic sets from artists such as Damien Rice and David Grey - of course this is also where he recorded his 2010 EP.
Collaborations
- Ed co-wrote three songs for British boy band One Direction, one of them being Little Things which even made it to the number one spot in the UK.
- As well as writing songs for 1D, Ed co-wrote and features on the Taylor Swift track Everything Has Changed taken from her Red album.
- Eds EP No 5 Collaborations Project - released before he was signed to a record label - features work with some really great Grime artists, including Wiley and P Money.
- In 2012 Ed collaborated with Wretch 32 on his single Hush Little Baby .
- Ed helped Children in Need , joining many other artists to perform on the 2011 cover of Massive Attacks Teardrops in support of the charity.
