The Basics
- Lordes full name is actually Ella Marija Lani Yelich-OConnor.
- She was born on the 7 th of November 1996.
- This means that her star sign is Scorpio. Typical Scorpios are said to be passionate and dramatic; wise beyond their years they are known as old souls.
- Lorde was born in Takapuna, a suburb of North Shore City on New Zealands North Island.
- She grew up a few miles further south in Devonport, a suburb of Auckland - New Zealands largest city.
- Lorde is famous for being a singer-songwriter, with her debut hit Royals being one of the most recognisable sounds of 2013.
- She is 1.65m tall - thats just over five feet four inches.
- A common theme running through Lordes work is to look at (and often criticise) mainstream pop culture.
- In addition to this mature, cynical viewpoint, her works also reflect the typical experiences of a girl her age, touching on themes of relationships, romance and anxiety.
- She has been the subject of some online hate after seemingly criticising a number of celebs, one of which was Justin Bieber. Her statement that he was not an ideal depiction of what it is like to be a young person sent the army of Beliebers into a real fury!
Family & Relationships
- Lots of people had plenty to say in late 2013 when the usually private teen hinted at a relationship with twenty-four year old photographer James Lowe... but is a seven year age gap that big a deal?
- The two met before Lorde was launched into the world of music, so James is used to sharing a normal life with his girlfriend. A once-avid blogger, he hit the web with a post in March 2014 expressing how his life had changed... but more importantly how much he missed her whilst she was touring and how proud he was of her - awww!
- As the post went on he referred to a quote by Jared Leto, writing that fame doesnt change you, it changes everyone around you. While Im not the centre of attention here (and f**k, the times I have, its never been fun), I do become aware of the people around me and their transparency. They fail to hide it.
- Hands up to Lorde when she was quizzed on her close friendship with Taylor Swift; the two had been spotted partying, shopping and just generally enjoying girl time when she was asked Are you guys together now? Not together as in Lesbians, Im not talking about Ellen [DeGeneres] together when the singer chimed back What do you mean youre not talking about Ellen Together? Is there something wrong with lesbians?... You go girl!
- Along with Taylor, Lorde is also really close to English singer Ellie Goulding. The two posted pictures on their Instagrams of them having a friendly kiss on the cheek... James is missing out on so much!
- Lorde has two sisters - Jerry and India.
- She also has a brother called Angelo.
- Lordes father, Vic OConnor is a civil engineer.
- Her mother, Sonja Yelich is well-known New Zealand poet.
- Although her parents have been in a loving relationship for many years, they only became engaged in June 2014!
